Wow..me too UJ, mistaken a man on twitter actually! kind of interesting ..and bizarre....how can you label language by gender? language is free and to prescribe that men and women have to have different styles...hmm.....

I am not really keen on the very popcorny 'chick flicks' either Lisa, but I guess I am open to all films potentially, so don't ant to rule them out completely. Mamma Mia does actually have it's place (though rarely) in my world, its just an easy fluffy ride. My tastes do not veer in that direction by default though

So I am scratching my head again over a reboot, Spider Man..... i felt the same about the titanic..no doubt both reboots are spectacular BUT when there is so much creative talent in the world why not use all that energy (and financing!) to bring something new! especially when the originals are already superb, timeless classics.

UJ, I love all the X men movies and Wolverine!

I saw The Dark Knight Rises. I was so disappointed. I loved the first two, with The Dark Knight being a favourite, but this was just stupid. And boring. I never thought I'd say such things about a Christopher Nolan film. It got off to a good start, and the end was okay (because I could finally leave) but those middle two hours ... Yikes. Flat characters, an incomprehensible villain and that nonsense with the Police ... No. Just no.

I'm looking forward to the Sky Movies Bondathon. I have very vague memories of early Bond and could do with a refresher.

Caught up with The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Grim but good. Almost tempted to try the books. Took a little dip into one of them once and didn't care for the style.

Also caught up with Anonymous. What could have been daft but fun crossed the line into sheer stupidity.

The original The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo movies (swedish) are my preferred over the remake UJ, yes grim and harrowing storyline but bloody good films.

There was a thick fog here this morning which reminded me of the Beatles song Blue Jay Way ("there's a fog upon L.A") which in turn reminded me of their album The Magical Mystery Tour and it just so happened that the film was on tv last night! I have only the vaguest memories of MMT. Think it was on the telly when I was young. I'll have to try to catch it later. Hopefully I can squeeze it in between Bond movies. I'm trying to watch them in order. I enjoyed Dr No, even remembered bits of it, and From Russia With Love. Have to wait til tomorrow for Goldfinger.

This sounds a very worthy thing to do UJ Sean Connery is my fave Bond, (plus I kind of met him once) but Roger Moore has his moments too! I hope you make a moment for Magical Mystery Tour, it is worth it from even just a cinematic history point of view, apart fromt eh fact that it is THE BEATLES!!!!

I saw something recently that upset me hugely....they are going to do The Wizard Of Oz in 3D!! NOOOOO!!! Leave this beautiful film alone for goodness sake, what mkes it great is its vintage, magical essence, the moment it goes from black and white to colour through the doorway..is one of my fave movie moments ever. i shall be deeply upset if they even touch this film .

Well if they do remake it in 3D the original will always hold it's own special place in my heart!

Ok so it is all about BOND at the moment (rightly so) but I cannot be the only one who loves early british Hammer horror films? it seems very timely and HALloweenie that there are tons of free full length films to watch via their youtube channel! bit.ly/NuAu2H

I grew up on Hammer Horror films. And the Carry On series. This may explain a lot about me.

I used to have a Dracula LP. One of my sisters must have bought it. It had Christopher Lee on one side, telling a story, and on the other samples of Hammer soundtracks. Lots of lush scores (lush as in rich, not just Gavin & Stacey kind of lush).

this is a fab combo thought UJ and sounds alot like me. My #ooohmatron joke fell flat on twitter a while back (Damien posted a pic of a pimms extraordinaire with a whole half of a cucumber in). this is why you should join! Oh god that is some vinyl i would love to lay my hands on the soundtrack are as epic as the films. Vintage horror cheese, don't mind if I do. fangs

Saw Skyfall.

Sigh.

I was very disappointed. In short, it was stupid. Apparently there are these new fangled things called computers and they're evol so it's best to go back to the old ways, so, like, if you're going to a great big frickin gun fight, be sure to bring a knife. It was all pretty ham fisted.

On the upside, I did enjoy the first half, but the main thing I enjoyed was the cast - Ben Whishaw is a lovely addition, of course, Javier Bardem was a hoot and I'm always happy to see Rory Kinnear.

I really enjoyed Skyfall. For me, even when the action was dialled down a notch it was still entertaining (for me anyway) I also like how Daniel Craig's Bond isn't as suave as Pierce Brosnan's interpretation or Roger Moore's. He's more in the vein of Sean Connery but more stripped back. I think DC's Bond is more like the novel version? At least that's what i've been lead to believe.

I did like Ben Whishaw, i've been won over by him ever since i saw his absolutely sensational performance in 'The Hollow Crown' and i loved him in this. Likewise with Javier Bardem, he was exquisitely bonkers. My hubby said to me that Rory Kinnear reminded him of someone, til i told him who his dad was and it was then he realised.

Very much enjoyed this movie.

I like Craig's Bond too, ruby, although I've been led to believe his Bond isn't like the novel version! One of these days I'm going to have to actually read those books.

And it was The Hollow Crown that introduced me to Ben Whishaw too. Had no idea who he was before that. Ended up catching up with The Hour because of him.

Thank you for the reviews UJ and Lisa, I cannot wait to see Skyfall. There is not a BOND film I do not enjoy and I find Craig's BOND engaging in surprising ways - agree with you Lisa, there is a stripped back rawness to his version, which I like, less flamboyant than Moore and somehow edgier than Connery (who will ever remain my fave BOND as I met the man in the flesh albeit briefly ) .

Are any of the BONDs completely faithful to Flemings vision? i have not found it to be so, but it has never bothered me in thw slightest. I just feel I can relax when it is a BOND film, it is going to be quality edge to edge!

This is fantastic.  I'm so excited about this film.  I'm a huge tolkin fan and loved the LOTR films...the prospect of 3 more films is enough to make me overlook the fact that they're turning it into 3 films if you get my drift.   And Aidan Turner.
