I will admit to having the same reaction to the happy ending but apparently it's all very 'Inception', 'Blade Runner' and the origami wolf was a sting in the tale. The ending is subjective which i suppose is the right ending, you interpret is as you want it.

So i'm going happy ending, until i see the DVD extra Toby has mentioned in his farewell blog post.

All in all a terrific episode and my heart was thumping hard in my chest during that scene in the living room at HH. For a horrible moment i thought my Ghost Shaped Bullet prediction was going to come true, up to and including that knock on the door, it was shades of Wyndam all over again.

I was teary eyed watching the Leo/Hal flashback scenes, Leo reminding Hal of having never forgotten who he killed, and then telling him that he must refuse the army surgeon's offer of eternal life but i was proper sobbing by the time Hal saw his reflection for the first time. With my husband in the next room too!. Tears of happiness this time. Then the sting in the tail (tale!)

I get and accept why the ending is open to interpretation, i think that's the way it had to be as so many people had different opinions on how the show should end. Some thought Hal should die, some wanted him to live, some wanted Tom to get his happiness and for Alex to get her door.

I'm just happy that in whateve universe this is, for now, Hal is not dead. That is all. He's alive.

Hello everyone how are we all doing after tonight's episode?

Back in the summer I wrote to Damien about a couple of things and in that letter I wrote:

"I would love Hal to succeed in overcoming his condition, to somehow find a way never before discovered in BH vampirism to find redemption and reclaim his humanity, but in the process really wanting to see him go all the way into the darkness for that giddy bliss of evil, not just in flash backs but in present day fang action!"

Looks like that is what we got....or did we?!

it is coming through in waves..in layers...as always with Being Human there are lots of levels going on at once and without wanting to spoil it for anyone else who hasn't seen it or who has their own interpretation....the ambiguity is perfect and right for Being Human and the characters in the Being Human universe....

Toby Whithouse has revealed there is another scene to come, on the DVD!

My heart is broken!!! That was beautiful!! I was bawling when they were all seeing what their live could have been. Oh my god!!! Im exhausted! And the ending was amazing!! And then Hal with his refection!! The mantel with Mitchell's gloves, George's necklace, eve's bib, Hal's domino, and Tom's stake (Those were just the ones that popped to me)!! again I will say my heart is broken!!! I cant believe its over.

I would love to see another series, but this episode felt final. It was a beautiful end!!

ahhhh! Im so sad! and i cant stop smiling!

yes just when you thought Lord Toby could get no cleverer..he really does... I just keep seeing more and more possibilities and layers in this whole episode not just the ending...

don't read this bit of my post inder the spoiler badge if you don't want to delve into the happy ending

Spoiler

Toby has truly achieved the amazing... ultimately he has left it to OUR DREAMS.

Ok, I've read it, because I'm glad about the happy ending, but I'm not sure it's a real one. I'm "fighting" between the two possibilities: real happy ending, or not? It's like an Hamletic doubt; ok, not so existential, but I don't know what to think about the end. And I don't think I didn't understand it, because of the language. What can I say? I love Toby, 'cause if I'm still thinking about the end of a series after 2 hours (I've seen it this morning), it means it was amazing and genial! I need to re-watch it, in order to try to understand.

In my opinion "the last broadcast" is one of the best episode ever; maybe all the series 5 is. Without "maybe": IT'S THE BEST SERIES! Every week I looked forward the next episode (and it happens rarely with tv series). I don't know; I felt like I needed it, like needed to know what was going on. The cast was amazing. The story was great

Let's talk about Damien in the last episode! He sang and danced. He was Hal and Lord Harry (and the difference between the two was little). And as I shout out loud at the end of "Putting on a Ritz" scene: ODDIO, E' STATO PERFETTO! BRAVO!! *clap* [translation: OMG, HE WAS PERFECT!!] (My poor neighbours XD)

I'm still trying to get over the fact that it's over, but I have to accept it and go on. It sounds like it's something existential (I also defined my doubts "hamletic"): I'm freaking out, definetely! biggrin

When it cut to the shot of Alex eating jelly I was surprised to find that I was so unhappy with the idea of them being human that I actually looked at the clock to see how much time was left!  So as soon as Hal said that he told the devil that Tom and Alex were missing from his dream I clutched at that straw.....I didn't even wait for the origami wolf.

If I don't think about it too hard I will never decide what really happened, and I hope that the DVD extra scene does nothing the change that; lets just go with the idea that the point of alternative realities is that each one is as real as the next - reality being the operative word.  This isn't a future like Eve showed Annie which has to either reach fulfillment, or cease to exist.....the two (or more.....!) can co-exist (or maybe Eve's future is still happening somewhere too!)  So as a conclusion to series 5 I thought it was great. The future holds endless possiblities.

But there couldn't possibly have been an ending that I would've been happy with.........

Right, now that a teeny bit of time has passed:

I was so relieved to see that Lord Hal had made a brand new vampire army. It made Hal's meltdown different to Mitchell's and the box car massacre, and it highlighted the difference between a run of the mill vampire and an old one. An old one has an agenda other than just feeding. Guess you don't get to be an old one without plans for world domination. Btw, was that Damien singing? Smooth dance moves too.

And how much do I love Lord Hal? Loads! I love that they gang faced the final threat with Lord Hal, not Hal. And it was so nice to see everyday Lord Hal. The first episode set everything up so beautifully.

To quibble: Alex had to climb out of her grave? Only if you want to see someone climb out of their grave. Again. All she really had to do was float through - that's through - the earth ... Never mind. And they over egged Rook's death. The ghost drinking the combined blood of the werewolf and the vampire, that kills the devil, yeah? So the devil can either die inside Rook's body, possibly taking Rook with him, or leave Rook's body (very Supernatural) and then just die, scatter, whatever. Going back into Rook and then killing Rook ... Am I missing something? It looked like they were just stretching it out.

So, with the devil and all his curses gone, has all vampirism, lycanthropy and hauntings now vanished from the world? Maybe in just that dimension? Are there now monsters looking for new powers? There's loads to continue the story ... But I love that the end spoke so well to the actual concept of the show. So bravo!

Sami, I loved that shot of the mantelpiece too.

I am a wobbly mess after last night thank god you all understand as noone in RL does!!!
I want to think it was a happy ending but something's niggling about that mantelpiece shot that it's not just showing us the props of the characters but I don't want to believe what I think it all really means I'm too sad already !!!:'(
At one point I thought it would be bad Hal all the way through which made me panic, I love bad Hal don't get me wrong but didn't want to end the whole thing with him. Human Hal was so adorable

UJ, yes that was Damien's singing. He confirmed it to someone who met him recently (I forget who) and it was tweeted last night that he was taught the dance routine too. So it's all him.

I'm so shocked by last nights episode. I was not expecting that for an ending. Damien was amazing. He had me in tears from the beginning, I thought they were all great. I have a question, does know a way of contacting Damien? I would like to send him a letter. :D

Well. Where do I start? The episode was amazing. I loved the fight scene with added little elements of comedy thrown in. That's what the show has been about from the beginning.

I knew Tom would kick all those vampires asses in no time, he's a bad ass vampire slayer obs!

Evil Hal was awesome! And hot. Just as I expected.

Hals speech about being human and winning at the end of the episode was perfection. I was absolutely in love with that scene.

i am majorly confused as to what the end actually means. the origami wolf absolutely suggests that they are in an alternate reality and that they have been tricked by the devil. I think that when the devil took them to the original alternates Hal and the others told him that he should have out them together. So when they woke up in the studio that was still reality but then hatch put them in the sinario that they all wanted and therefore would believe. All together in the house after defeating the devil and they're all human and they believe it.

at least that's what I thought until I read Toby's interview in which he says that it would be sad if we all believed thats how it ended and the DVD scene will show us the truth.

now I'm completely confused.....

I've seen so many negative comments, I'm really surprised because I thought the end was really great. They kept the trio together, wasn't that the whole point of this series? It doesn't really matter where they are, what matters is that they are together (and happy). That's my perfect ending :) #hatersgonnahate

Anyway Toby was right, when he said 'The fact is that there simply isn't an ending that will please everyone'.

Am still divided about this episode. Loved the beginning , bad Hal putting on the Ritz, the epic fight scene between Tom & Hal and the 3 Temptations. I didn't like the ending at first, but that was because I was jealous of Alex and Hal! (sad, but true) & by becoming Human this really meant the end of the supernatural trio that I know and love. At first watch, I also missed the significence of the origami werewolf . I was too busy crying I guess. I thought it was a lovely goodbye homage to the housemates we had grown to love and that the wolf was Tom's symbol, but at the second watch, I noticed the twist. As others have pointed out, there were clues in the camera angles, lightening and Hatch & Hal's dialogue. I didn't pick it up first time - too busy trying to breathe, but hey, that's what re-watches are for and what the forum  is about, sharing our opinions and observations & picking up on new things that we had not seen before

I'm still thinking...seriously. I'm probably going to have to watch that ep over like 10 times to really know what I think.

But right now, I'm going with "Happy Ending." No matter how it was achieved and at what cost. I like that Toby was able to pull it all together, wrap it up neatly with a little bow, make us all happy, and then still leave you wondering what just happened.

I may just refuse to watch the extra scene in the DVD so as to not shatter all my illusions. But then who am I kidding, if there's more to watch, I'll be watching. biggrin

Really? because my twitter feed was filled with praise (as well as a bit of confusion) and the reviews are all good.

I wondered whether the reality changed the moment they did the ritual in the house, where they're all blown back and knocked out.

I don't think there is a wrong or a right answer to this, it's ambiguous and subjective. I get why some think it's wrong because Hal was seen as irredeemable and giving him his humanity seemed a bit of a cop out, i understand that completely but he and Alex and Tom did defeat the devil (or it seemed as they did) so perhaps this was their 'reward', deserving or not. I wonder if it was just those three who were rewarded as such and that the others out there remain as vampires, werewolves and ghosts?
