That may be the case with Broadchurch but I will not chance it.  I don't like only seeing part of a show/movie.  It's why I don't get popcorn and drinks at the movies (plus the prices are outrageous) so I will not have to get up in the middle of the show and go to the bathroom.

I'm pretty sure we have longer commercial breaks here so there is a good chance something got cut out of Broadchurch anyway. I can live with the bleeping but I can't abide having parts of the show cut out.  It's also why I refuse to watch movies on TV.  They always cut parts out.

I understand why they are doing it but they need to come up with another way....like lengthening the time slots of shows that will not fit into the 45 minute show format rather than deleting 15 or 20 minutes of the show to the point where the episode made no sense.

I am utterly gobsmacked that they would cut that entire scene....regardless of the reasons.  It is all just so important to the story!

At the risk of going off topic - I've always assumed that the reason Dr Who episodes are 45 mins is so that they could be shown in full in America with ad breaks and make up a 1hr time slot.  But Ripper St is produced in association with BBCAmerica, and yet the eps are 1hr long....I wonder how that will work?!

I imagine Ripper Street will get the same treatment as Being Human on BBC America then, unless for some reason since it's produced in conjunction with BBCA they will lengthen the time slot for it.  But if that turns out to be the case, then why wouldn't they do that for Being Human?  cry

I watch most of my UK shows via Netflix so I didn't relize this was an issue until we started watching this final season of BH UK with friends from their DVR of BBC America shows.

I'm glad Doctor Who at least isn't being butchered.

The strange thing is they had BH running for 1hr 15 minutes the first few episodes, and at1 10.  But they still managed to cut scenes out.  Then they moved it to 11 and cut it to an hour. Bastards!

I recorded Broadchurch but am not bothering.  Going to cancel that channel altogether and wait for Broadchurch on Netflix.

I'm doing Ripper Street live from the UK... will be signing up for that VPN service as soon as definitive airdate is announced!
