Exciting news!

Damien will star in 'The Effect', a play by Lucy Prebble, airing on BBC Radio 3 in the new year.

Samuel West today announced the project had wrapped.

Damien is playing one of the lead characters Tristan Frey.

First performed at the  National Theatre in 2012, this will be the first ever radio production of the play.

You're very welcome Maghat

Susan, the vast majority of BBC Radio programmes can be listened to live and on catch up, via the BBC Radio iplayer internationally. One of the reasons I love Damien doing radio (apart from the obvious) is the accessibility worldwide! When the programme appears in the schedules we will have a link to share.

As with any existing play Damien is announced to appear in, now comes the 'do I or don't I read it beforehand' dilemma!

My feeling is to not read, not only because coming to something first hand is fresh and exciting, but because every production of every play is different, and this being the first ever radio production makes it an extra exciting prospect.

The Google books synopsis for the play is below (obviously don't read if you want no prior knowledge whatsover on the themes of the play!). The Hard Problem slightly comes to mind, anyone else?

Two young volunteers, Tristan and Connie, agree to take part in a clinical drug trial. Succumbing to the gravitational pull of attraction and love, however, Tristan and Connie manage to throw the trial off-course, much to the frustration of the clinicians involved. This funny, moving and perhaps surprisingly human play explores questions of sanity, neurology and the limits of medicine, alongside ideas of fate, loyalty and the inevitability of physical attraction. It premiered at the National Theatre's Cottesloe Theatre in November 2012.

This is brilliant news! I love that Damien does radio work like this. For some reason I always feel like a proper intellectual listening to a radio play! It sounds like a good story too.

Excellent! Damien on the radio is just what I need to brighten up these dark winter nights. And what a great way to start the new year.

In my ignorance I never realised that Radio 3 did drama!!!

Just to mention again - Damien's previous BBC radio programmes have been available internationally on the BBC radio iplayer both live and on catch up, fingerscrossed this will be too. So we will all be able to listen together !

Check out the radio iplayer here and download the radio iplayer app here

I hope this info helps everyone both UK and outside the UK!
