Great poll, domino!

Naturally I'm choosing Albert Flight! My first experience of Damien was watching Ripper Street so Albert holds a very special place in my heart.

I do like it when Damien plays Irish characters. I'm a real sucker for Irish accents and love Damien's natural accent.

Ha ha! I had a feeling Albert might get your vote Rosie, thanks for joining in

While doing this poll I realised that apart from Hal, all Damien's TV characters are Irish! Obviously we know that, but if you include Damien's theatre, radio and film work he has such a diverse range of accents and characters, it took me by surprise slightly. However despite the Irishness they are all utterly different, and Damien brings something amazing to each and every one.

I'm finding it hard to choose and honestly love them all in their own unique ways. Some are obviously more 'likeable' characters - trigger happy and dark Paddy in Tiger Raid is maybe the least - but I love Damien's performance in bringing him to life. But my immediate instinct is between Jack Weston - we've seen so much of him and his Jack Sass (plus I'm crazily missing him) and Jon (White / Gosling), maybe because he is Damien's most recent character, but also he was such a lovely surprise, nuanced, quiet but mysterious. with a wicked sense of humour and... the best hair ever.

Difficult choice, domino, between Flight and Jack, but Albert won! He's such a complex character, with so many difficult choices. His bravery when he turned himself in for accomplice to murder was heart-stopping (and the only thing to do). It was such a shame he didn't reappear in any bother seasson. I like to think of him going to America and having a new, successful life there.
I really like Jack, too, and Danny, come to that. So hard to choose! Oddly enough, much as I enjoyed the comedies, it's the more dramatic roles that I really enjoy. I need an Irish Mist to help me deal with the strain!

So I finally voted, for Jack. blueshirtalert

There is a vote for Jon too, good to see others joining in! Would love to hear why he got your vote?!

Very well said Ellie. Dear Albert definitely was a complex character and intriguing too.. not forgetting utterly tragic. This alone would normally be the ultimate emotional pull for me..

...but maybe because we have seen more of Jack that there is more familiarity there... and that feels like a greater connection somehow? Which is a testament to the cleverness of the show's format, up until the last season we knew and saw nothing about Jack outside of his career, yet he is magnetically engaging, and I'm fully invested in him as a character. Not that I am not to all the others, mind you.... hmmm...

Ach.. this poll is totally bringing up a major yearning to see more of every single one of these characters (with the exception of Paddy, RIP, unless we had a prequel, which would be all kinds of interesting). What happened next to Flight, Danny, Anthony, Jack and Jon?

I'm in agreement regarding dramatic roles over comedies for that emotional pull. Usually that is my default setting. But Crashing and GameFace were not simple comedy, more comedy drama, and in context of his career, Damien both of them was such a delicious contrast, a release. And seeing Damien's comedic side, such a treat. I find myself at this point in time very intrigued and wanting to know more about Jon, it feels like we've only just begun to discover him. So much potential.

I voted for Jon because I like his patience and he sang opera in a bowling alley.  It was kind of a tossup between Jack and Jon to me.  It may have come down to the fact that I haven't seen Jack in a while.

Aha - thank you for voting Random Jane!

"I like his patience and he sang in a bowling alley" - yes! Gawd, his patience was spectacular (and the comedy that produced) and the singing (on both occasions) was a positively flabbergastingly delightful surprise!

Just to add a little provocation into the mix...

In an interview with The Metro Damien said on Ripper Street ending and on Albert Flight:

Q Were you surprised that Ripper Street was axed? The decision caused a lot of anger among fans.

A. Yes I was, from a selfish point of view, because I had such fun doing it, filming over a summer in Dublin. And the last series ended in such a gripping way, the boxing scene with Matthew Macfadyen’s character screaming: ‘Kill him!’ It was really powerful. I think there were a lot of possibilities still open to the characters, including my own.

For me it's Paddy. That was a spontaneous decision. I like the glasses and think everyone can use a little luck and with these glasses nothing can go wrong.

There definitely were a lot of possibilities left for Albert Flight and it was disappointing to hear nothing more of him when Ripper Street returned especially as Inspector Shine came back in the final series.

Ooh.. really happy you voted for Paddy Sana, good to see him getting his tick too - thanks for joining in!

Rosie - I know! not only because there were possibilities for Flight but it kind of suggests that was it for him.. which I don't like to think of as his ending!
