Ooooo, now that's a topic we should start!

Or, do you think he'd read my phone book to me?

Or...what about Sat Nav??

this (and all WordTheatre readings) would have been right up my alley. Literature being my degree 'n 'all...not sure if I have mentioned this before either but my tutor and teacher at school age 11- university age was writer / poet /playwright Sean O'Brien, who, I have just discovered, now has his very own wiki page. I really should begin writing again. Sigh. Inspired. My new big dream is for Damien to be in one of his plays or give  a reading of any of his works.

So he read two poems then? How exciting. If only we'd known, would have been lovely to hear him speaking again.

OK - with this much interest in Damien's 'voice and reading talent' (and I mean apart from by us!) I am now totally expecting to be able to buy audio books read by him....very, very soon!!!

If you could get him on Sat Nav I'd be using it for the drive to work, the supermarket...

I'd go hang out in my car and punch in addresses, even if it's just to hear him say "proceed to the highlighted route" over and over again. LMAO

It would probably be safer to just hang out in your car to listen. Focusing on driving could prove problematic!

Audio books have been dreamt of by the DaMo fandom for a long long time! keep the faith folks, it will happen one day!

Funny you should mention satnav, London Theatre (@LondonTheatre1) asked on Twitter which actor would you like as your satnav voice and I replied Damien as posh hal - I would enjoy receiving instructions from His Overwroughtness, and Hal chastising me for terrible driving!

a couple more pictures of other readers with Damien in the background waiting his turn (not in brown clothes, the lighting is weird!)

Awwww, how awesome! Lovely photos too (of course). And I agree with everyone else. I'd listen to him ready anything really.

whimsy, yes!!! Damien needs to record for GPS systems. Although I think I get all sorts of distracted.

@domino...maybe in the future when Damien has become one of the biggest stars on the planet, when he's won every major entertainment award (including the "palme d'or"!) you may consider writing the first authorised biography of Mr Molony?   Oh that voice..what it does to moi!

Haha! I do I do! Just not stuff peeps see! But I need to get certain projects finished and get more serious about it. Sorry to be mysterious just not damien related. But most of my creating energy is used in creating the sites! Perhaps not considered creative but it is making a thing out of no-thing and then we become co-creators!

Anyhow.. I'd love to hear damien give a poetry reading, I do hope some footage becomes available ! As far as I am aware there was no live stream of this event last night.

your faith in my writing skills is touching J-B! bless you. I wouldn't mind writing Damien's career biography, but my meagre skills would not be good enough for the job methinks.

I can totally see him winning the palm d'or! Can you imagine the acceptance speeches? lol! No pressure at all Damien....... We do get carried away sometimes but it is because we have absolute faith in the mans' talent!

here is one of the poems Damien read last night, oh my god it's beautiful

The Coal Jetty by Sinéad Morrissey

I agree with you Ruby about "The Doll House".  Very deliciously descriptive, the actress's voice was gorgeous, the images came alive in my head.

Same thing with "The Coal Jetty".  I could almost taste the ocean air, tainted slightly by rust and decay.  He's got a soft, melodious way of reading, but still emphasizing certain words and syllables.  When he says "salt"... I can't help but picture him as Hal in the bar. "I bet your skin tastes of salt." thud

"The War Reporter" was a bit more lively.  I find his American accents adorable, doesn't bother me at all, but I don't have an accent so I can't judge any.  LOL  I didn't care for that poem however.  Have definitely had more listenings of "The Coal Jetty".

Damien definitely has a great speaking/reading voice.  He enunciates very well, even with accents and when reading softly.  He never sounds muddled or rushed. His s's and r's are mesmerizing. (I say that alot)

There's a reason I took one of the lines from his radio play Student Stories and made it part of my siggy. wink

I loved the first one, 'The Doll House'. Beautifully read and so evocative. Martin Jarvis's recitation also made me smile.

Damien's first recitation of 'The War Reporter' threw me for a moment because of the accent but i did enjoy it but 'The Coal Jetty' was by far the better one, aaah that accent, especially how he pronounced 'washing' with the extended 'sshhh' sound.

He needs to either do audio books or someone on television needs to revive 'Jackanory' because he'd be perfect for both!

I listened to the audio and I have to say that War Reporter struck me much more strongly than Coal Jetty.
My degree and experience is in literature and journalism, and I have been a field reporter, and a teacher of high school journalism. My experiences with censorship were very frustrating--I don't think we should put a pretty veneer on ugly truths. That is probably why the poem meant more to me.
So many lovely voices and amazing poems! What a treat to hear! It is stirring my inner poet again.
