I have to say that i agree with Prada regarding the hair...it's time for a trim, top looks fine, the back is a nightmare. And i LOVED the shirt.

Very much agree with it being mostly about Damien and Clare, Faye hardly has a look in but i do like the camaraderie of the trio as a group, the dynamics work very well. I think of the episodes to date, this was the one that gelled the most for me, as i said in my previous review post, there were times that i forgot i was watching a partly improvised show.

Enjoyed this episode, although I wasn't quite as gripped. And like ruby, I forgot the dialogue was improvised. Clare and Damien work so smoothly together and now I'm looking forward to seeing Fay in action next week.

 Finally got to watch ep 4 properly....and this just about sums up my reaction.

The focus for Suspects is definately on Jack and Charlie.......the boss is in the background - interestingly, in the scene where Jack detailed all of his findings about the credit card he spoke almost entirely to Charlie, and hardly addressed Martha at all.   Although I still think Martha is lacking authority in the scenes with the other two....I think Fay does a brilliant job in the interview scenes.  But generally it really feels as though it's found it's feet....and is starting to run now.

Absolutely looking forward to next week.......and the rest of the series!!!

For those who have trouble with the dialogue in Suspects,

subtitles for episode 4 via uksubtitles.ru

1

00:00:11,960 --> 00:00:15,520

"Reports tonight suggest

that police have been called

2

00:00:15,586 --> 00:00:17,826

to the home of Terrence Holland.

3

00:00:18,889 --> 00:00:20,889

Mr Holland is terminally ill

4

00:00:20,929 --> 00:00:22,948

and a prominent campaigner for

the right to die."

6

00:00:35,169 --> 00:00:38,089

The victim is Terrence Holland,

investment banker,

7

00:00:38,129 --> 00:00:41,969

hence this very lovely penthouse.

He's also terminally ill.

8

00:00:42,009 --> 00:00:45,209

He was found, in an apparent drugs

overdose, in the bedroom.

9

00:00:45,249 --> 00:00:50,369

Paramedics found bruising and

a needle mark on his right arm.

10

00:00:50,409 --> 00:00:52,889

Thank God the ambulance

got here just in time.

11

00:00:52,929 --> 00:00:55,769

It's a potential high-profile

suicide attempt, OK?

12

00:00:55,809 --> 00:01:00,649

Terrence Holland is a very

passionate right-to-die campaigner,

hence why I called you.

13

00:01:00,689 --> 00:01:04,609

The lady over there is his GP,

Dr Melanie Standish.

14

00:01:04,649 --> 00:01:06,649

She called the police.

15

00:01:09,329 --> 00:01:11,369

I arrived here at about

seven o'clock

16

00:01:11,409 --> 00:01:13,569

for a pre-arranged meeting.

OK.

17

00:01:13,609 --> 00:01:17,249

I knocked at the door

and I heard Terrence's voice.

18

00:01:17,289 --> 00:01:20,569

I heard his voice

and I heard a woman's voice.

19

00:01:20,609 --> 00:01:24,209

Did you recognise it? I presumed it

to be his ex-wife, Henrietta,

20

00:01:24,249 --> 00:01:28,769

which was a bit of a surprise

because they're going through

a very bitter divorce.

21

00:01:28,809 --> 00:01:32,249

So they sounded to me as if

they were having an argument. OK.

22

00:01:32,289 --> 00:01:36,369

So then I decided to leave them

to it and maybe go for a walk.

23

00:01:36,409 --> 00:01:39,849

Did you hear the voices again

when you came back? No. No, no, no.

24

00:01:39,889 --> 00:01:45,369

I didn't hear anything when I came

back. I knocked on the door, there

was no sound, no voices, no nothing.

25

00:01:45,409 --> 00:01:50,009

So I decided to ring Terrence

on his mobile, and I got no reply,

26

00:01:50,049 --> 00:01:51,969

and I... I started to worry.

27

00:01:52,009 --> 00:01:55,649

That's when you called the police?

That's when I called the police.

28

00:01:55,689 --> 00:01:58,809

We found his wife, Henrietta

Holland, in the bedroom,

29

00:01:58,849 --> 00:02:02,369

out for the count. I had Uniform

take her to the station

30

00:02:02,409 --> 00:02:04,529

so she can be looked at by the FME.

31

00:02:04,569 --> 00:02:08,849

Have you got any sharps in that box?

No. No? What else have we got?

32

00:02:08,889 --> 00:02:12,489

So Mr Holland suffers from cancer,

quite an advanced stage.

33

00:02:12,529 --> 00:02:15,129

So he would've been

barely able to use his arms.

34

00:02:15,169 --> 00:02:21,289

He could not have done that himself.

OK. You notice there's no syringes,

no vials, no packaging around?

35

00:02:21,329 --> 00:02:23,369

It is pretty straightforward, right?

36

00:02:23,409 --> 00:02:27,529

Wife Henrietta has tried to help

husband Terrence to die. OK.

Whoa, whoa.

37

00:02:27,569 --> 00:02:29,929

Don't jump to conclusions.

That's my job.

38

00:02:35,129 --> 00:02:40,649

How is he? Henrietta,

I've been told he's in ICU

39

00:02:40,689 --> 00:02:43,929

and he's currently struggling

to breathe on his own, so...

40

00:02:44,609 --> 00:02:46,609

..very unwell, unfortunately.

41

00:02:47,769 --> 00:02:51,049

So you spoke on the phone -

Yeah.

42

00:02:51,089 --> 00:02:53,969

And then you agreed

to meet up this evening?

43

00:02:54,009 --> 00:02:56,529

We talked for an hour and...

44

00:02:57,209 --> 00:02:59,169

he was really tired.

45

00:02:59,209 --> 00:03:01,209

The myeloma takes it out of him.

46

00:03:01,969 --> 00:03:03,969

He fell asleep,

47

00:03:04,009 --> 00:03:09,329

and I was very tired

so I took a couple of sleeping pills

48

00:03:09,369 --> 00:03:11,849

and I went to sleep

in the spare room.

49

00:03:11,889 --> 00:03:14,249

What time did you go to bed?

50

00:03:14,289 --> 00:03:16,289

Just after seven.

51

00:03:17,489 --> 00:03:19,689

It's quite early for a grown woman.

52

00:03:19,729 --> 00:03:22,929

I was on a really early shift.

I was up at about half-three.

53

00:03:24,889 --> 00:03:28,169

So you don't live at the flat?

No. No.

54

00:03:28,209 --> 00:03:31,569

We've been separated for

a bit more than a year.

55

00:03:32,289 --> 00:03:35,689

OK, we got Mr Terrence Holland.

Mmm.

56

00:03:35,729 --> 00:03:38,769

Set up Euthanasia Action UK

as a direct response

57

00:03:38,809 --> 00:03:42,129

to his inability to bring his own

rights-to-die campaign

58

00:03:42,169 --> 00:03:44,369

to the High Court.

Mm-hm.

59

00:03:44,409 --> 00:03:47,449

OK. And it appears that

Dr Melanie Standish is

60

00:03:47,489 --> 00:03:50,769

an ardent supporter of the campaign.

61

00:03:50,809 --> 00:03:53,729

There's no sign of a forced entry

into this house, OK?

62

00:03:54,649 --> 00:03:56,889

So if Dr Standish is to be believed,

63

00:03:56,929 --> 00:04:01,089

whoever had the argument with

Terrence, in the house,

64

00:04:01,129 --> 00:04:04,489

had access. Let's locate brothers,

sisters, do we know? Yes.

65

00:04:04,529 --> 00:04:07,609

He has one brother, Matt Holland.

66

00:04:07,649 --> 00:04:09,649

I cannot find him,

67

00:04:09,689 --> 00:04:11,849

but I have spoken to his wife, Jess.

68

00:04:11,889 --> 00:04:15,289

She's on her way to the hospital.

OK, let's go there now. Yeah.

69

00:04:17,769 --> 00:04:23,329

Ah, Jess, listen, I know it's late.

We're not gonna keep you too long,

just a few questions. That's OK.

70

00:04:23,369 --> 00:04:25,889

How was Terrence

over the last couple of days?

71

00:04:25,929 --> 00:04:30,209

Did he give any indication anything

like this might be happening?

No, not at all.

72

00:04:30,249 --> 00:04:35,449

He was really positive, actually.

When was the last time you saw him?

A couple of days ago maybe.

73

00:04:35,489 --> 00:04:39,569

Matthew saw him yesterday. He was

really positive yesterday as well.

74

00:04:39,609 --> 00:04:43,089

Do you have a key to Terrence's

flat? Yes, and Matthew does.

75

00:04:43,129 --> 00:04:44,929

We have one each.

OK.

76

00:04:44,969 --> 00:04:47,729

And what were you up to this

evening? Early evening?

77

00:04:47,769 --> 00:04:51,009

I was with Edna.

She's a friend of mine.

78

00:04:51,049 --> 00:04:53,929

Right. Does Edna have a surname?

Locke.

79

00:04:53,969 --> 00:04:56,889

OK. Edna Locke. About what time were

you there? Um...

80

00:04:56,929 --> 00:05:00,049

Probably from about sixish.

Mm-hm.

81

00:05:00,089 --> 00:05:02,209

I think maybe for a couple of hours.

OK.

82

00:05:02,249 --> 00:05:05,569

And where was Matthew today?

Matthew's out with his friends,

83

00:05:05,609 --> 00:05:07,609

and I don't think he even knows.

84

00:05:22,089 --> 00:05:26,809

Did you get those toxicology reports?

Yes, I have Terrence Holland's

toxicology report.

85

00:05:26,849 --> 00:05:31,369

So he suffered a morphine overdose.

They also found traces of zopiclone

86

00:05:31,409 --> 00:05:33,769

in his system.

It's a sleeping tablet.

87

00:05:33,809 --> 00:05:35,656

SOCO's found estranged wife Henrietta's pack

of sleeping tablets in the kitchen area,

88

00:05:35,657 --> 00:05:36,389

and also looked through Terrence's medication logbook.

There's a phial of morphine missing from the fridge. OK.

89

00:05:36,421 --> 00:05:40,061

I think we need to know how the

sleeping pills were administered.

90

00:05:40,062 --> 00:05:43,742

If Terrence Holland can't use

his hands properly,

91

00:05:43,782 --> 00:05:47,542

did someone help him? Did he...

Was he able to use a cup, etc?

92

00:05:47,582 --> 00:05:50,782

I've been in touch with his

solicitors. They said they sent

93

00:05:50,822 --> 00:05:55,302

divorce papers to Terrence's

estranged wife, Henrietta, a month

ago,

94

00:05:55,342 --> 00:05:59,822

maybe even more,

for her to sign, an absolute decree,

and she hasn't signed them,

95

00:05:59,862 --> 00:06:03,702

she hasn't sent them back. We're

talking about a huge amount of money.

96

00:06:03,742 --> 00:06:07,582

He's an investment banker, his

apartment is pretty flash.

97

00:06:07,622 --> 00:06:11,582

People have been murdered for a lot

less. Yes, a potential motive.

98

00:06:11,622 --> 00:06:14,182

Let's look at his last will

and testament,

99

00:06:14,222 --> 00:06:18,262

see who's most likely to benefit

from his death I suppose.

100

00:06:18,302 --> 00:06:23,542

In the meantime, could we bring in

Henrietta based on the sleeping pill

evidence, please? OK.

101

00:06:38,022 --> 00:06:40,582

Mrs Holland? Yes.

Hi.

102

00:06:41,502 --> 00:06:47,262

I was wondering if you'd accompany me

down to the station, please? I've

already been. I appreciate that.

103

00:06:47,302 --> 00:06:52,182

I've told you everything I know. In

order to continue my investigation,

I need to arrest you.

104

00:06:52,222 --> 00:06:55,462

What? I am arresting you on

suspicion of assisting a suicide.

105

00:06:55,502 --> 00:07:00,782

You don't have to say anything,

but it may harm your defence if you

fail to mention, when questioned,

106

00:07:00,822 --> 00:07:04,422

something you later rely on in court.

Anything you do say may be used

107

00:07:04,462 --> 00:07:07,142

in evidence - This is -

Please come with us - crazy.

108

00:07:07,182 --> 00:07:11,342

I don't want to have to use these.

Oh my God. Let's go quickly and quietly.

109

00:07:11,382 --> 00:07:13,902

You've got this wrong, really wrong.

110

00:07:15,462 --> 00:07:17,462

Can you tell me about this, please?

111

00:07:18,542 --> 00:07:22,622

It's... er... my decree absolute.

112

00:07:24,102 --> 00:07:26,062

Signed?

113

00:07:26,102 --> 00:07:28,102

Um... Unsigned.

Why is that?

114

00:07:31,862 --> 00:07:35,422

We decided to give it another go,

our marriage.

115

00:07:35,462 --> 00:07:38,022

Um... We were keeping it quiet.

116

00:07:39,862 --> 00:07:42,942

After we separated, Terry's

family took sides

117

00:07:42,982 --> 00:07:47,182

and we just wanted to have a chance

to see if it would work

118

00:07:47,222 --> 00:07:49,822

without external pressure.

OK.

119

00:07:51,742 --> 00:07:54,142

Do you have any idea

how your sleeping pills

120

00:07:54,182 --> 00:07:56,502

might have ended up

in Terrence's system?

121

00:07:57,142 --> 00:07:59,422

I've absolutely no idea, no.

122

00:07:59,462 --> 00:08:04,822

Well, we've found traces of the pills

in his system. It's something for you

to think about.

123

00:08:04,862 --> 00:08:09,062

I took two myself and then

I fell asleep in the spare room.

124

00:08:09,102 --> 00:08:11,622

I didn't give him any pills.

Are you sure?

125

00:08:11,662 --> 00:08:15,822

I'm absolutely sure, yes. What was

the argument about? What argument?

126

00:08:15,862 --> 00:08:19,462

Terrence's personal physician said

she called to the door at 7pm,

127

00:08:19,502 --> 00:08:24,102

she heard raised voices.

She said she heard something that

sounded like an argument,

128

00:08:24,142 --> 00:08:27,502

an intense, heated debate.

I was there, we talked for an hour,

129

00:08:27,542 --> 00:08:32,422

we both went to sleep.

We didn't argue. Your husband has

a lot of money, he's terminally ill,

130

00:08:32,462 --> 00:08:37,462

and you wanna get your hands - This

is ridiculous. You gave him sleeping

pills, knocked him out,

131

00:08:37,502 --> 00:08:41,742

dosed him up to the gills with

morphine. I don't know what

you're talking about.

132

00:08:41,782 --> 00:08:47,262

This is complete madness.

This is the first I knew that he had

sleeping pills in his system.

133

00:08:47,302 --> 00:08:49,302

I would never have done that!

134

00:08:50,342 --> 00:08:54,142

Did you buy it? I can't figure out

whether it's actually genuine upset

135

00:08:54,182 --> 00:08:59,102

or if she's bullshitting us, OK.

But if I was a betting man,

136

00:08:59,142 --> 00:09:01,342

I'd say this argument was

about money.

137

00:09:01,382 --> 00:09:04,982

I won't take much of your time,

Edna, but thank you for having me.

138

00:09:05,022 --> 00:09:09,382

I just wanted to ask you about

Jess Holland. Yes.

139

00:09:09,542 --> 00:09:14,302

And she was here last night,

if I understand correctly? Yes, yes.

140

00:09:14,342 --> 00:09:17,342

Yes, she was. About what time?

Ooh... um...

141

00:09:19,062 --> 00:09:24,702

About six o'clock. She stayed for

an hour, an hour-and-a-half.

142

00:09:24,982 --> 00:09:27,662

OK. Is that morphine?

143

00:09:28,222 --> 00:09:30,542

Yes, that's for me.

144

00:09:30,582 --> 00:09:33,862

I've got cancer I'm afraid, so...

I'm sorry to hear that.

145

00:09:33,902 --> 00:09:36,702

It must be nice to have

people like Jess come visit.

146

00:09:36,742 --> 00:09:40,782

Yes, she's wonderful. She comes to

make sure I'm not lonely or,

147

00:09:40,822 --> 00:09:46,062

you know, too depressed. Yes.

And her husband, Matt,

148

00:09:46,102 --> 00:09:50,902

he's my care nurse.

He gives me the injections.

149

00:09:50,942 --> 00:09:54,902

I'm going to leave you in peace now.

That's really helpful, so thank you.

150

00:09:54,942 --> 00:10:00,262

She confirmed that Jess was at her

place yesterday, from six o'clock,

for about an hour-and-a-half.

151

00:10:00,302 --> 00:10:04,422

Jess's husband Matt is her care nurse,

so he knows how to administer morphine.

152

00:10:04,462 --> 00:10:09,222

I've been trying to figure out

what he was up to yesterday.

I managed to trace him to a casino

153

00:10:09,262 --> 00:10:13,022

late afternoon, but he left about

6.30. I have no idea where he is now.

154

00:10:13,062 --> 00:10:16,062

Let's circulate a description

of Matt Holland, OK? Yeah.

155

00:10:16,130 --> 00:10:20,770

I popped down to Forensics. They

think Terrence drank something

deliberately laced

156

00:10:20,810 --> 00:10:26,570

with Henrietta's sleeping pills, cos

they found a mug in the kitchen with

some powdery residue at the bottom.

157

00:10:26,610 --> 00:10:32,130

Also, it has been deliberately wiped

of fingerprints. It doesn't sound

like an assisted suicide, Jack.

158

00:10:32,170 --> 00:10:34,570

No, it's looking like

an attempted murder.

159

00:10:46,190 --> 00:10:48,950

Somebody got that syringe

out of there,

160

00:10:48,970 --> 00:10:51,310

and if we can identify that

that somebody was Henrietta,

161

00:10:51,311 --> 00:10:54,431

then that will

deconstruct her alibi, right?

162

00:10:54,501 --> 00:10:59,501

The FME has processed Henrietta's

samples and confirmed the presence

of sleeping tablets,

163

00:10:59,541 --> 00:11:02,861

so she may well have been out for

the count like she said she was.

164

00:11:05,301 --> 00:11:08,501

You see my major problem

with your whole story

165

00:11:08,541 --> 00:11:11,901

is this big reconciliation.

166

00:11:12,823 --> 00:11:16,543

OK? Because we've found forensic

evidence of the sleeping tablets

167

00:11:16,583 --> 00:11:20,543

in Terrence's coffee cup. You and

Terrence were alone in the house,

168

00:11:20,583 --> 00:11:26,543

he can't walk, he can't feed himself,

you had the sleeping tablets, the

sleeping tablets are in his system.

169

00:11:26,583 --> 00:11:29,383

Explain that. I didn't give him

the sleeping pills!

170

00:11:29,423 --> 00:11:35,343

How can you explain then, that they

were in his system? I can't explain

it but I didn't give them to him!

171

00:11:38,623 --> 00:11:41,663

I've been going through Terrence's

mobile phone history.

172

00:11:41,703 --> 00:11:44,943

He's made contact with the rectory

at St Sebastian's Church.

173

00:11:44,983 --> 00:11:47,903

Maybe he's looking for spiritual

guidance.

174

00:11:47,943 --> 00:11:50,383

Yeah, well, listen.

Maybe it was planned

175

00:11:50,423 --> 00:11:52,943

and maybe Henrietta

did agree to help him.

176

00:11:52,983 --> 00:11:58,703

He's also received two phone calls

yesterday, OK? One of the phone calls

was from the wonderful Dr Standish.

177

00:11:58,743 --> 00:12:02,303

The second call was from MCP Bank,

credit card fraud department.

178

00:12:02,343 --> 00:12:06,383

The call lasted 30 minutes, OK? I got

in touch with the credit card company.

179

00:12:06,423 --> 00:12:11,783

They said the phone call was to do

with a credit card of Terrence's that

had been completely maxed out,

180

00:12:11,823 --> 00:12:15,863

no repayments made on it. Apparently

he denied all knowledge of the card.

181

00:12:15,903 --> 00:12:21,183

I'm wondering whether someone who

had access to Terrence's flat is also

taking advantage of him.

182

00:12:21,223 --> 00:12:22,863

Defrauding him for money?

183

00:12:27,423 --> 00:12:30,703

Not only has Terrence got

one credit card maxed out,

184

00:12:30,743 --> 00:12:35,023

there's three credit cards been

applied for in the last couple of months.

185

00:12:35,063 --> 00:12:39,183

The credit cards are being used

solely to withdraw money from ATMs.

186

00:12:39,223 --> 00:12:43,703

That's odd. We know Henrietta has

being seeing Terrence

187

00:12:43,743 --> 00:12:47,303

for the last six weeks or so.

Hm-hm. In secret, OK?

188

00:12:47,343 --> 00:12:51,103

The credit cards were applied for

two, three, four months ago, OK?

189

00:12:51,143 --> 00:12:55,863

Matt and Jess, they have access to

the flat, don't they? Yeah, they do.

190

00:12:55,903 --> 00:12:58,703

OK. Is there any way they could be

applying for

191

00:12:58,743 --> 00:13:00,863

credit cards in Terrence's name?

192

00:13:01,983 --> 00:13:04,743

Yeah?

Yeah, thank you.

193

00:13:05,383 --> 00:13:07,343

So they've found Matt Holland.

194

00:13:07,383 --> 00:13:09,943

He's sleeping off a hangover

on a park bench.

195

00:13:14,103 --> 00:13:17,743

Er... Mr Holland? Yeah.

I'm Detective Sergeant Jack Weston.

196

00:13:17,783 --> 00:13:22,823

Where were you last night? I was out

at a friend's party, birthday,

197

00:13:22,863 --> 00:13:24,983

at Benning's Casino.

OK.

198

00:13:25,122 --> 00:13:27,042

OK, Benning's Casino, great.

199

00:13:27,082 --> 00:13:30,842

Erm... Remind me of your profession.

I'm a palliative care nurse. OK.

200

00:13:30,882 --> 00:13:35,242

You must see this kind of thing all the

time, people in Terrence's position. Mm-hm.

201

00:13:35,282 --> 00:13:37,322

The sadness of it.

Mm-hm.

202

00:13:37,362 --> 00:13:41,122

The hopelessness of it really,

I suppose. It's a difficult period.

203

00:13:41,162 --> 00:13:45,442

Can you lead me through your day,

kind of late afternoon?

204

00:13:45,482 --> 00:13:48,362

Yesterday afternoon

I went by and saw Terry.

205

00:13:48,402 --> 00:13:52,402

I saw him in the afternoon.

I left him, I went out to the party.

206

00:13:52,442 --> 00:13:54,802

Is it strange that you know Terrence

so well

207

00:13:54,842 --> 00:13:57,642

but you've not involved in

any aspect of his care?

208

00:13:57,682 --> 00:14:01,722

I'm not really able to

take on his care at the moment.

209

00:14:01,762 --> 00:14:04,242

It's too... It's too much.

210

00:14:05,002 --> 00:14:07,962

He's my brother,

I can't give him that,

211

00:14:08,002 --> 00:14:10,922

and he's got... He's got a private

GP, you know?

212

00:14:10,962 --> 00:14:14,522

He's gone private. My brother

will throw money at a problem,

213

00:14:14,562 --> 00:14:18,042

and she is the best care that money

can provide, you know?

214

00:14:18,082 --> 00:14:20,082

Private sector.

215

00:14:20,122 --> 00:14:22,122

Um... We've found Matt, Jess,

216

00:14:22,162 --> 00:14:25,202

sleeping off his heavy night

on a park bench.

217

00:14:26,202 --> 00:14:28,682

Really?

Yeah.

218

00:14:28,722 --> 00:14:32,082

OK. Is that not something

he makes a habit of?

219

00:14:32,122 --> 00:14:36,642

Not really, no.

He doesn't go out very often

any more. We tend to stay in.

220

00:14:36,682 --> 00:14:41,122

OK. It's cheaper. It's much cheaper.

And we're saving up for a flat as well.

221

00:14:41,162 --> 00:14:45,002

I finally got in touch with the bank

over the transactions in and out of

222

00:14:45,042 --> 00:14:48,122

Terrence's bank account,

the most recent ones at least.

223

00:14:48,162 --> 00:14:52,602

There's something very odd about

the money Dr Standish is receiving

from Terrence.

224

00:14:52,642 --> 00:14:56,242

Anything to do with the credit

cards? I haven't worked that

out yet,

225

00:14:56,282 --> 00:15:00,922

but after the call they had yesterday

afternoon, Terrence deposited £12,000

into

226

00:15:00,962 --> 00:15:07,002

Dr Standish's business bank account,

and that's on top of all the other

extortionate fees she's charging him.

227

00:15:07,042 --> 00:15:09,202

Is that Terrence paying Standish

228

00:15:09,242 --> 00:15:12,082

so that she'll help him

try and end his life?

229

00:15:12,122 --> 00:15:15,282

Wait a minute. This is a private

physician, a very well-paid

230

00:15:15,322 --> 00:15:19,882

private physician. I don't think

12 grand is enough to kill somebody.

231

00:15:19,922 --> 00:15:23,922

I do want our doctor's movements

last night corroborated,

232

00:15:23,962 --> 00:15:26,042

all right? As quick as a flash.

233

00:15:31,362 --> 00:15:33,362

This is our Dr Standish down here.

234

00:15:35,002 --> 00:15:37,042

Oh.

OK,

235

00:15:37,082 --> 00:15:39,962

so that guy there is

a neighbour of Terrence Holland,

236

00:15:40,002 --> 00:15:43,362

door-to-door - With the shuffle

bags. With the shuffle bags.

237

00:15:43,402 --> 00:15:47,002

I've spoken to him. He said that

Dr Standish had a massive go at him

238

00:15:47,042 --> 00:15:51,882

for bumping into her with shopping

bags, and he described her as "tense

and impatient",

239

00:15:51,922 --> 00:15:56,682

maybe because she's nervous and on

her way to administer a near-fatal

morphine overdose.

240

00:15:56,722 --> 00:15:59,362

Hang on. She's the one who made

the 999 phone call.

241

00:15:59,402 --> 00:16:03,762

Maybe she wanted to get back in

and corrupt the crime scene with

her fingerprints.

242

00:16:03,802 --> 00:16:07,922

But we can't prove any of that,

Charlie, so let's focus on what

we have got,

243

00:16:07,962 --> 00:16:12,322

which is 12 grand being paid from

Terrence Holland to Dr Standish

244

00:16:12,362 --> 00:16:14,562

on the day that he overdosed,

all right?

245

00:16:19,522 --> 00:16:24,442

I spoke to the hospital.

Terrence Holland is out of intensive

care but he's heavily sedated,

246

00:16:24,482 --> 00:16:26,842

so we're not gonna talk to him

anytime soon.

247

00:16:26,882 --> 00:16:29,562

I've just been on to

the General Medical Council

248

00:16:29,602 --> 00:16:33,122

to see if Dr Standish is registered

to a practice, which she is.

249

00:16:33,162 --> 00:16:38,202

What's interesting is

two years ago she was subject to an

internal investigation when she was

250

00:16:38,242 --> 00:16:41,082

working as a registrar at

Bond's College Hospital.

251

00:16:41,122 --> 00:16:44,042

She filed a "do not resuscitate"

for an elderly patient

252

00:16:44,082 --> 00:16:46,042

against the family's wishes,

253

00:16:46,082 --> 00:16:49,562

and shortly afterwards she left that

hospital by mutual consent.

254

00:16:50,922 --> 00:16:55,562

So it seems that our Dr Standish has

very strong views on

the right-to-die issue.

255

00:16:55,602 --> 00:16:57,602

Dr Standish?

256

00:16:57,642 --> 00:16:59,762

Dr Standish?

Can I have a quick moment?

257

00:17:00,402 --> 00:17:04,362

Dr Standish, could we talk to you

outside, please?

258

00:17:04,402 --> 00:17:07,522

I'm very sorry, I can't talk to you

now. I'm busy. Outside.

259

00:17:07,562 --> 00:17:10,882

I've got a lot of things to do.

Five minutes and I'll talk to you.

260

00:17:10,922 --> 00:17:13,402

I'm happy to arrest you

in the corridor. What?

261

00:17:13,442 --> 00:17:17,202

I'm arresting you on suspicion of

assisted suicide. Don't be silly.

262

00:17:17,242 --> 00:17:22,642

You do not have to say anything that

may harm your defence - No, this is

ridiculous. Something which you

263

00:17:22,682 --> 00:17:27,922

later rely on in court. Anything you

do say may be given in evidence.

Do you understand?

264

00:17:27,962 --> 00:17:30,802

But you understand that,

to save embarrassment,

265

00:17:30,842 --> 00:17:34,722

I will come with you, but this is

outrageous. Absolutely outrageous.

266

00:17:34,762 --> 00:17:39,242

Fine. I don't need you to take my

arm. I will cuff you if you do not

go willingly.

267

00:17:39,282 --> 00:17:43,802

Or I will hold you. You choose.

OK, hold me, but I will talk to

my solicitor. Thank you.

268

00:17:47,082 --> 00:17:50,442

There you go. £12,000. Does that mean

anything to you, Melanie?

269

00:17:50,482 --> 00:17:52,442

Yes, it does.

270

00:17:52,482 --> 00:17:56,002

£12,000 was deposited into

my account by Terrence Holland,

271

00:17:56,042 --> 00:18:01,282

and I noticed it this morning

when I looked at my bank statement.

Why would he pay you £12,000?

272

00:18:01,322 --> 00:18:05,202

He already pays you enough, surely?

He put my name into the public

domain.

273

00:18:05,242 --> 00:18:07,842

The fact is, I am trustee of

his lobbying group.

274

00:18:08,802 --> 00:18:11,642

I'm passionate about the beliefs

that he holds

275

00:18:11,682 --> 00:18:15,762

but I did not want my name in

the newspapers. I was very angry

about it.

276

00:18:15,802 --> 00:18:20,282

I presume that's why he decided to

put £12,000 in my account, but I

don't want it.

277

00:18:20,322 --> 00:18:24,602

Melanie, yesterday, when you went

to Terrence Holland's flat,

278

00:18:24,642 --> 00:18:26,962

so can you just run me

through this again.

279

00:18:27,002 --> 00:18:29,122

You parked up,

and then what did you do?

280

00:18:29,162 --> 00:18:33,522

I told you this yesterday, but I

went to Terrence Holland's flat at

seven o'clock.

281

00:18:33,562 --> 00:18:36,802

There were voices behind the door,

there was an argument.

282

00:18:36,842 --> 00:18:40,402

I decided to go for a walk

for about half an hour,

283

00:18:40,442 --> 00:18:43,322

and I got back to the flat at 7:30.

284

00:18:43,362 --> 00:18:47,842

Do you have a key to Terrence's

flat? Erm... Yes, I, well, I did.

285

00:18:47,882 --> 00:18:51,242

I did have a key but I have

no idea where it is now. OK.

286

00:18:51,282 --> 00:18:54,762

OK, we're going to be searching

your car and your flat, Melanie,

287

00:18:54,802 --> 00:18:59,762

just so you know, so if you wanna

change your answer. Just so you

know, just so you know,

288

00:18:59,802 --> 00:19:02,202

this is absolutely outrageous.

289

00:19:02,242 --> 00:19:05,922

It's completely out of order, and

when this investigation is over,

290

00:19:05,962 --> 00:19:09,042

your superiors will be

hearing from me. OK. OK?

291

00:19:09,082 --> 00:19:12,642

Thank you. Thank you.

We can get you a cup of tea maybe?

292

00:19:12,682 --> 00:19:15,722

I don't want anything from you.

No? OK. OK.

293

00:19:15,762 --> 00:19:19,682

Am I free to leave? No, absolutely

not. You stay where you are, OK?

294

00:19:28,162 --> 00:19:30,162

Sarge?

Yeah.

295

00:19:30,962 --> 00:19:33,242

What have we got? Oh.

296

00:19:38,042 --> 00:19:39,642

Excellent.

297

00:19:46,682 --> 00:19:50,122

So we know that Dr Standish has

a key to Terrence's flat.

298

00:19:51,044 --> 00:19:54,844

If Henrietta woke up at some point

she may have disturbed Dr Standish,

299

00:19:54,884 --> 00:19:58,244

mid-mercy killing, which would

explain the failed overdose.

300

00:19:58,284 --> 00:20:03,644

Why would Terrence go ahead with the

assisted suicide if he knew Henrietta

was in the flat still?

301

00:20:03,684 --> 00:20:07,084

It's worth chatting to Henrietta

again, see what we can get. OK.

302

00:20:07,124 --> 00:20:09,564

Did Terrence know

that you stayed the night?

303

00:20:10,045 --> 00:20:12,045

No, he wouldn't have known.

304

00:20:13,205 --> 00:20:16,325

Um... He fell asleep before I did.

OK.

305

00:20:17,245 --> 00:20:20,885

And then you took some sleeping

pills and you went to sleep?

306

00:20:20,925 --> 00:20:24,045

When you took those, where did you

leave the packet?

307

00:20:24,085 --> 00:20:28,325

On the side, in the kitchen,

on the work surface. OK.

308

00:20:31,805 --> 00:20:35,005

Why would Dr Standish even bother

using sleeping pills?

309

00:20:35,045 --> 00:20:39,285

She would've known that the morphine

is enough - Yes - to kill Terrence.

310

00:20:39,325 --> 00:20:41,525

Do you see what I'm saying, though?

Yeah.

311

00:20:41,565 --> 00:20:44,245

I've just spoken to Terrence's

solicitor, OK?

312

00:20:44,285 --> 00:20:47,085

He changed his will six months ago.

313

00:20:47,125 --> 00:20:50,085

The beneficiary is not Matt.

Who is it? Jess. Jess?

314

00:20:50,125 --> 00:20:54,005

Why would he leave all his money to

his sister-in-law, not his brother?

315

00:20:54,045 --> 00:20:56,845

I don't know, Charlie.

Ask Dr Standish, OK?

316

00:20:56,885 --> 00:21:00,925

Dr Standish gets nothing out of the

will but is the executor. OK? Right.

317

00:21:00,965 --> 00:21:03,725

Yeah. Wish me luck.

318

00:21:09,125 --> 00:21:12,805

So we found Terrence's key,

your copy of it, in your car.

319

00:21:13,605 --> 00:21:15,605

Yeah, I told you I'd lost it.

320

00:21:16,885 --> 00:21:19,085

Right.

321

00:21:19,125 --> 00:21:23,285

You're an executor to Terrence

Holland's will, are you not?

322

00:21:23,325 --> 00:21:26,445

Yes, I am. Why is he leaving

all his money to Jess?

323

00:21:26,485 --> 00:21:29,805

Because his brother, Matt,

has a gambling habit.

324

00:21:29,845 --> 00:21:35,165

Surely they're married, they have a

joint account, that's no guarantee

that Matt won't spend it.

325

00:21:35,205 --> 00:21:40,445

She's the one who holds the family

together, she keeps a tight rein

on the finances, she knows Matt

326

00:21:40,485 --> 00:21:45,565

would fritter away the money so

she makes sure she controls it and

that he doesn't lose any of it.

327

00:21:47,405 --> 00:21:52,805

We've gone through Matt Holland's

financial records. Dr Standish was

right. He loves a good gamble.

328

00:21:52,845 --> 00:21:58,805

Apparently he lost a packet at the

casino yesterday. A regular customer

there and he always gambles alone.

329

00:21:58,845 --> 00:22:04,525

How does this guy fund his gambling

habit on a nurse's salary? Do you

know what I mean? Yeah, I know.

330

00:22:04,565 --> 00:22:07,565

This is Matt and Jess's joint

account statement.

331

00:22:07,605 --> 00:22:11,405

They're permanently in the red,

they're really struggling for cash.

332

00:22:11,445 --> 00:22:15,285

But every so often there are these

injections of cash. 500 quid,

a grand,

333

00:22:15,325 --> 00:22:18,365

which keep them from going over

their massive overdraft.

334

00:22:18,405 --> 00:22:21,525

OK, is the money being taken

from Terrence's credit card

335

00:22:21,565 --> 00:22:25,165

similar to the cash injections here?

No, I don't think so.

336

00:22:25,205 --> 00:22:30,405

The dates and the amounts just don't

match. They're too different.

OK, we need clarification

337

00:22:30,445 --> 00:22:34,205

on monies in and out. Ask Jess, will

you, please? Yeah, I will do.

338

00:22:37,765 --> 00:22:40,405

Hiya. All right, Jess.

How's it going? Good.

339

00:22:41,045 --> 00:22:42,405

Good.

340

00:22:42,445 --> 00:22:44,845

How much do you know about

Terrence's will?

341

00:22:45,885 --> 00:22:47,885

Nothing really.

342

00:22:47,925 --> 00:22:49,845

Nothing at all?

No, no.

343

00:22:49,885 --> 00:22:54,005

OK. So you didn't know you're

set to inherit all of his money?

344

00:22:54,045 --> 00:22:55,325

No.

345

00:22:55,365 --> 00:22:57,925

Am I? No, I didn't know that.

346

00:22:57,965 --> 00:23:01,005

Yeah, absolutely. He changed his

will a little while ago

347

00:23:01,045 --> 00:23:03,645

and you alone are

the main beneficiary. Right.

348

00:23:04,365 --> 00:23:08,365

Gosh, OK, I can't get my head around

that. That's...

349

00:23:09,325 --> 00:23:14,685

I take it that would make a massive

difference to your personal

finances? A huge difference, yeah.

350

00:23:14,725 --> 00:23:16,845

We've been struggling for a while.

351

00:23:16,885 --> 00:23:20,845

We're saving up for a house, the same

as anyone else on one income.

Yeah, no.

352

00:23:20,885 --> 00:23:24,725

Are you not working? No, I'm not.

I was made redundant. OK.

353

00:23:24,765 --> 00:23:27,805

Um... Where were you working,

if you don't mind me asking?

354

00:23:27,845 --> 00:23:29,805

At a salon called Clearly Gorgeous,

355

00:23:29,845 --> 00:23:32,765

and I was made redundant from that

last year.

356

00:23:32,805 --> 00:23:36,005

OK. So, yes, just relying on

Matt's income really. Mm-hm.

357

00:23:36,965 --> 00:23:42,885

I only asked because I've been

having a look through yours and

Matt's joint current account,

358

00:23:42,925 --> 00:23:45,925

and other than Matt's earnings

coming in,

359

00:23:45,965 --> 00:23:49,525

there are these sort of quite

regular - You've got our statements?

360

00:23:49,565 --> 00:23:52,805

We do have a right to look through

people's finances if we feel

361

00:23:52,845 --> 00:23:57,485

it's relevant to the case

and they're significant witnesses.

I am quite curious to know

362

00:23:57,525 --> 00:23:59,765

where those sums are coming from.

363

00:23:59,805 --> 00:24:02,925

Well, I've been doing a bit of

cash in hand on the side. OK.

364

00:24:02,965 --> 00:24:05,445

We've been struggling for a bit,

as I said, and -

365

00:24:05,485 --> 00:24:10,165

What kind of work? I do my beauty

treatment on the side. Right.

366

00:24:10,205 --> 00:24:12,165

Matt's been gambling for a while,

367

00:24:12,205 --> 00:24:15,125

which is something we're

dealing with separately,

368

00:24:15,165 --> 00:24:19,725

so I've had to go out and do things

but I'm sorry I didn't mention it.

369

00:24:19,765 --> 00:24:23,045

I've never claimed it on a tax form

so I was just a bit... OK.

370

00:24:23,085 --> 00:24:26,005

Um... I'm just a bit worried

I'm gonna get in trouble.

371

00:24:26,805 --> 00:24:33,005

So, Edna, you're a beauty client of

Jess's. She comes round and gives

you treatments? Yes, that's right.

372

00:24:33,045 --> 00:24:37,005

Does she come round often?

Yes, about... um... Well,...

373

00:24:37,045 --> 00:24:39,685

..at least twice a month

I should say.

374

00:24:39,725 --> 00:24:41,725

OK. How much does she charge?

375

00:24:42,925 --> 00:24:45,725

Well, if you must know,

she charges £20.

376

00:24:46,885 --> 00:24:49,005

And sometimes I give her

a little extra.

377

00:24:49,045 --> 00:24:51,885

I don't understand.

What are all these questions?

378

00:24:51,925 --> 00:24:56,045

I'm just following up on

our investigations. Really? Yep.

379

00:24:56,085 --> 00:24:59,565

I don't see why she shouldn't get

a bit of extra. She needs to.

380

00:24:59,605 --> 00:25:01,605

I mean, her husband Matt's a bit...

381

00:25:02,405 --> 00:25:04,885

Well, he's not a great provider.

382

00:25:05,605 --> 00:25:08,085

Do you pay her in cash?

383

00:25:08,125 --> 00:25:10,125

Yes, I pay her in cash.

384

00:25:10,965 --> 00:25:14,165

£20 is quite cheap for

a beauty treatment for a facial.

385

00:25:14,205 --> 00:25:16,605

Yes, well, she's being kind and nice

386

00:25:16,645 --> 00:25:18,885

to people who don't have

an awful lot.

387

00:25:25,165 --> 00:25:27,285

Bring me news.

388

00:25:27,325 --> 00:25:30,285

I have just been on the phone

to Jess's old employers.

389

00:25:30,325 --> 00:25:35,525

They're a salon called Clearly

Gorgeous. One of the services they

offer are Botox injections,

390

00:25:35,565 --> 00:25:39,925

which Jess would also have

administered. She knew how to use

a needle. Absolutely.

391

00:25:39,965 --> 00:25:44,285

I'm also still thinking about

the deposits going into Jess

and Matt's account.

392

00:25:44,325 --> 00:25:49,205

I spoke to Edna again. She confirmed

that Jess gives her and some of

the others treatments,

393

00:25:49,245 --> 00:25:53,845

but she's charging small amounts.

Even though Edna says,

"Sometimes I give her more,"

394

00:25:53,885 --> 00:25:57,045

it's not enough to cover

what's going into those accounts.

395

00:25:57,085 --> 00:26:01,845

Are you guys talking about me?

I heard "clearly gorgeous".

Oh, clearly deluded.

396

00:26:01,885 --> 00:26:05,125

OK, thank you. The tech team have

done a full analysis of

397

00:26:05,165 --> 00:26:07,165

Terrence Holland's computer.

398

00:26:07,205 --> 00:26:10,365

On it they found an email from

Terrence's solicitor,

399

00:26:10,405 --> 00:26:12,565

which contained a draft copy of

the will.

400

00:26:12,605 --> 00:26:16,325

That email has been forward on

to Matt Holland's email address.

401

00:26:16,365 --> 00:26:20,525

OK, so wait a minute. Matt and Jess,

they did know that they were

402

00:26:20,565 --> 00:26:22,965

beneficiaries of the will?

403

00:26:23,005 --> 00:26:25,285

That's not what she said to me.

404

00:26:25,325 --> 00:26:28,525

Can we get hold of Matt again?

Where is he, do we know?

405

00:26:28,565 --> 00:26:30,565

I will ask Jess.

406

00:26:37,965 --> 00:26:41,565

Just after I left Jess

she gets on the phone.

407

00:26:41,605 --> 00:26:44,245

We've traced that call.

It's to husband Matt.

408

00:26:44,285 --> 00:26:48,605

She then fucks off, tells Leo on the

front desk that she's got to get

back to work,

409

00:26:48,645 --> 00:26:54,365

which we all know is a lie because,

Jess, you've been made redundant.

I can't reach either Jess or Matt.

410

00:26:54,405 --> 00:26:57,165

OK, let's circulate them as wanted.

411

00:26:57,205 --> 00:27:00,925

I'll get a Section Eight warrant

and we'll search their flat. Good.

412

00:27:02,405 --> 00:27:04,405

Why did you let her go, Charlie?

413

00:27:09,725 --> 00:27:12,765

So Jess went straight from here

to pick up husband Matt,

414

00:27:12,805 --> 00:27:17,245

they then drive off down that way.

There's no CCTV on the next street

so we lose them.

415

00:27:17,285 --> 00:27:21,565

I have absolutely no idea

where they are, where they're going.

416

00:27:21,605 --> 00:27:25,245

Are they having a barney?

Yeah, it looks like it. Boss?

417

00:27:25,285 --> 00:27:27,845

They've done a search of

Matt and Jess's house.

418

00:27:27,885 --> 00:27:31,645

The place is an absolute tip. These

guys have definitely done a runner.

419

00:27:31,685 --> 00:27:33,605

Found in the living room,

420

00:27:33,645 --> 00:27:37,165

three credit cards registered

to Terrence Holland.

421

00:27:37,205 --> 00:27:39,205

Also found was a bank deposit book

422

00:27:39,245 --> 00:27:42,005

registered to

Edna Locke's bank account.

423

00:27:42,045 --> 00:27:46,125

Inside the deposit book we can see

that the money from the credit cards

424

00:27:46,165 --> 00:27:49,005

has been deposited into

Edna Locke's bank account.

425

00:27:49,045 --> 00:27:53,325

And they've been using Edna's

account to launder the cash.

Cheeky bastards.

426

00:27:53,365 --> 00:27:56,445

- Do you think she knows?

- Yeah, possibly.

427

00:27:56,485 --> 00:28:00,965

What's Edna's address?

23 Hilden Avenue. 23 Hilden Avenue.

428

00:28:01,005 --> 00:28:05,005

OK, great. MPR have spotted Matt

and Jess's car. It's on its way

to Edna's.

429

00:28:05,045 --> 00:28:07,045

OK, get there before they do.

Yeah.

430

00:28:09,405 --> 00:28:11,405

OK, Matt and Jessie's car.

431

00:28:14,285 --> 00:28:19,005

Is that Matt and Jessie's car?

Yeah, that one. This one? Mm-hm.

432

00:28:24,085 --> 00:28:28,325

You keep coming into my house and

asking questions. What am I meant

to have done?

433

00:28:28,365 --> 00:28:34,005

Sit down, make yourself comfortable.

We're looking for Matt and Jess

Holland. Both are wanted by police

434

00:28:34,045 --> 00:28:38,245

for questioning. We believe they may

be hiding here. They are not. I don't

care.

435

00:28:38,285 --> 00:28:43,725

I'm searching your home. He can't.

Get comfortable. He can't come into

my house. I'm afraid he can.

436

00:28:43,765 --> 00:28:48,365

Just cos she does a bit of work on

the side you think she's fiddled

her tax.

437

00:28:48,405 --> 00:28:52,805

It's much more serious than that.

Oh, come off it.

I know them better than that.

438

00:28:52,845 --> 00:28:56,485

If you know where they are, it's

really - I don't know where they

are.

439

00:28:56,525 --> 00:28:58,525

Their car's parked outside.

440

00:28:59,885 --> 00:29:02,365

Ooh.

Edna, are you OK?

441

00:29:02,405 --> 00:29:03,965

Edna?

Edna?

442

00:29:04,005 --> 00:29:07,205

Call an ambulance. Ohh!

Are you struggling to breathe? Yes.

443

00:29:07,245 --> 00:29:10,885

Edna, just sit back in your chair,

it's fine. I'll get you -

444

00:29:10,925 --> 00:29:14,565

Ambulance. Can I get you some water?

Yes. We're at 7 Hilden Avenue.

445

00:29:14,605 --> 00:29:19,685

I'm DS Jack Weston.

We've an elderly lady, shortness of

breath, chest pains, yes?

446

00:29:19,725 --> 00:29:21,725

I'll get you some water.

447

00:29:25,165 --> 00:29:28,045

Eyes peeled on ANPR.

OK, keep me posted.

448

00:29:28,085 --> 00:29:29,725

OK, bye.

449

00:29:29,765 --> 00:29:33,805

Erm... How is she? She's fine.

I just spoke to the consultant.

450

00:29:33,845 --> 00:29:36,965

She was faking it. There's nothing

wrong with her heart.

451

00:29:38,205 --> 00:29:42,965

One of the neighbours said

five minutes before we arrived,

which is fucking marvellous,

452

00:29:43,005 --> 00:29:45,725

two people matching Matt and Jess's

description

453

00:29:45,765 --> 00:29:48,285

hopped into Edna's car and drove off.

Oh.

454

00:29:49,085 --> 00:29:52,085

Would you give us a minute? Sure.

Thank you.

455

00:29:52,125 --> 00:29:54,525

Mrs, Mrs, Mrs Locke.

456

00:29:55,405 --> 00:29:58,085

You rather had one over on us.

Fair play.

457

00:29:58,125 --> 00:30:01,845

I don't know what you're talking

about. I still have your handbag.

458

00:30:01,885 --> 00:30:05,805

Um... I thought you were having a

heart attack so I - Yes, so did I.

459

00:30:05,845 --> 00:30:09,005

I'm sure you did.

I did notice, however,

460

00:30:09,045 --> 00:30:11,605

looking through,

that there's no debit card.

461

00:30:11,645 --> 00:30:13,605

So?

462

00:30:13,645 --> 00:30:18,445

You don't seem very concerned about

the loss of your debit card.

Why should I be?

463

00:30:18,485 --> 00:30:22,605

If my debit card's not in my

handbag, it's in a pocket somewhere.

464

00:30:22,645 --> 00:30:25,645

Or on the table somewhere.

It could be anywhere.

465

00:30:26,205 --> 00:30:28,205

My patience with this is waning.

466

00:30:28,245 --> 00:30:31,285

You are currently obstructing

a police investigation.

467

00:30:31,325 --> 00:30:35,445

Where's your debit card? I don't

know. Did you give it to Matt

and Jess Holland?

468

00:30:35,485 --> 00:30:39,765

Well, I could have done.

We need to go. Mrs Locke,

469

00:30:39,805 --> 00:30:43,485

I'm thrilled at your miraculous

recovery, but someone's been using

470

00:30:43,525 --> 00:30:49,645

your debit card at a petrol station

on the Vine Road, five minutes away.

Thank you, Mrs Locke. See you soon.

471

00:30:53,605 --> 00:30:55,605

Red Micra, red Micra.

472

00:30:56,645 --> 00:30:59,445

There they are.

Control, this is DC Steele.

473

00:30:59,485 --> 00:31:03,765

We spotted the suspects. They've

abandoned their car on Trisfield

Gardens.

474

00:31:03,805 --> 00:31:07,325

They're heading through the park

in the direction of the station.

475

00:31:07,365 --> 00:31:13,965

We're going to swing round to the

exit, try and get ahead of them.

There, there, there. Hold on.

476

00:31:14,005 --> 00:31:16,045

Just let them get

a little bit closer.

477

00:31:17,165 --> 00:31:20,725

Matt and Jess Holland? Stand there,

stand there, stand there.

478

00:31:20,765 --> 00:31:23,285

Stop! Fucker! Stand there.

Are you OK, Jack?!

479

00:31:24,165 --> 00:31:27,405

Jess Holland, I'm arresting you for

attempted murder.

480

00:31:27,445 --> 00:31:31,005

You don't have to say anything that

may harm your defence...

481

00:31:31,045 --> 00:31:34,685

..whatever you do say may be used in

evidence. Do you understand?

482

00:31:34,725 --> 00:31:36,485

Do you understand?

Yes.

483

00:31:42,125 --> 00:31:46,045

Jess, why did you and Matt

take Edna's car and run?

484

00:31:47,765 --> 00:31:50,605

Because we panicked, I panicked.

485

00:31:52,765 --> 00:31:57,885

Because Matthew told me what

he'd done and I was worried

486

00:31:57,925 --> 00:32:03,165

what was going to happen to him,

so I wasn't thinking very clearly,

487

00:32:03,205 --> 00:32:08,445

I don't think. And in all this panic

and confusion,

488

00:32:09,245 --> 00:32:12,845

you had the forethought

to pick up Edna's debit card.

489

00:32:12,885 --> 00:32:17,045

Well, I just... I didn't know what

was going to happen to Matthew,

490

00:32:17,085 --> 00:32:21,765

and I was worried for him so I didn't

really think anything through.

491

00:32:21,805 --> 00:32:23,845

I hadn't thought any of this through.

492

00:32:24,525 --> 00:32:29,205

What about the money you've been

depositing into Edna's account?

493

00:32:29,245 --> 00:32:31,245

Hm.

Where did that money come from?

494

00:32:33,565 --> 00:32:35,365

Well, that was Matthew's...

495

00:32:35,405 --> 00:32:38,365

That was the money Matthew won from

the casino.

496

00:32:38,405 --> 00:32:42,565

So I was keeping it from...

So he wouldn't lose it again.

497

00:32:42,605 --> 00:32:44,605

So I was taking it away from him.

498

00:32:45,805 --> 00:32:48,405

But why put it into Edna's account?

499

00:32:48,445 --> 00:32:52,165

Because we've been told that you

control the purse strings,

500

00:32:52,205 --> 00:32:54,205

you control the marital finances,

501

00:32:54,245 --> 00:32:58,405

so why not just put it in your

account with your massive overdraft?

502

00:32:58,445 --> 00:33:00,925

No, I don't control the money.

No?

503

00:33:01,565 --> 00:33:04,045

I do now but I didn't used to control

the money.

504

00:33:04,085 --> 00:33:07,125

I've had to because he'd just spend

all of our money,

505

00:33:07,165 --> 00:33:09,165

and he has done before.

506

00:33:18,125 --> 00:33:21,645

Can you tell us, please,

what these are?

507

00:33:21,685 --> 00:33:26,805

Cos we found these in your flat.

Look - It's got Terrence's name on.

This was a short-term thing.

508

00:33:26,845 --> 00:33:30,005

I was in real financial problems.

I'm going to pay it back.

509

00:33:30,045 --> 00:33:34,925

I'm a gambling addict. I've got

a problem, and I recognise it, and

I'm trying to deal with it.

510

00:33:34,965 --> 00:33:38,765

You were trying to see what else you

could get away with. Absolutely not.

511

00:33:38,805 --> 00:33:43,765

This was a short-term financial

problem that we were solving like

this. I know it's not ideal.

512

00:33:43,805 --> 00:33:49,445

Entirely separate to that,

another separate issue is my brother

had a terminal, incurable disease,

513

00:33:49,485 --> 00:33:52,605

and he was asking me,

as a palliative care nurse,

514

00:33:52,645 --> 00:33:54,645

to assist him in dying.

515

00:33:56,005 --> 00:33:59,605

Did Jess know? No-one else knew.

This was just between me and him.

516

00:34:01,045 --> 00:34:05,565

OK, let's go with this. So you went

to the casino. I went to the casino,

517

00:34:05,605 --> 00:34:10,045

I had a couple of drinks,

and then I went to his flat.

518

00:34:10,085 --> 00:34:14,125

And... er...

he was there on his own.

519

00:34:14,165 --> 00:34:17,485

We talked for a while. He said he

didn't want to be injected.

520

00:34:17,525 --> 00:34:22,005

He wanted to be asleep.

And you left then at...?

521

00:34:22,045 --> 00:34:25,885

I left about half-seven.

About half-seven or half-seven?

522

00:34:25,925 --> 00:34:28,765

Yeah, it was... um...

Yeah, it was half-seven.

523

00:34:33,485 --> 00:34:38,405

What direction? Did you leave at the

front door, you go right or you go

left? Which way?

524

00:34:38,445 --> 00:34:40,685

I went -

Where did you go?

525

00:34:40,725 --> 00:34:44,325

I... um... I went... er... left.

526

00:34:44,365 --> 00:34:47,685

I mean I just... I was getting

really emotional. I wasn't...

527

00:34:52,565 --> 00:34:56,125

Jack? Charlie? Yeah. I've just

spoken to Terrence's priest,

528

00:34:56,165 --> 00:35:00,085

the one he rang. He wasn't looking

for any spiritual guidance at all.

529

00:35:00,125 --> 00:35:04,485

He booked a private ceremony

to renew his marriage vows

to Henrietta.

530

00:35:04,525 --> 00:35:10,125

Breaks your heart, eh? Fuck.

It doesn't sound like someone who's

gonna commit suicide any time soon.

531

00:35:10,165 --> 00:35:12,485

No, it sounds like

attempted murder to me.

532

00:35:12,525 --> 00:35:17,405

We've just been looking through what

Matt told us in Interview.

Looking at the timeline,

533

00:35:17,445 --> 00:35:19,925

he said that when he left

Terrence's, at 7:30,

534

00:35:19,965 --> 00:35:23,205

he turned left. If he did he

should've run into Dr Standish.

535

00:35:24,165 --> 00:35:28,405

I think Matt's account is starting to

look a bit thin on the ground. So,

536

00:35:28,445 --> 00:35:31,365

who's our killer, guys?

Matt or Jess?

537

00:35:44,511 --> 00:35:49,411

I suppose, in the days leading up to

the assisted suicide, it wouldn't

surprise you that Terrence

538

00:35:49,423 --> 00:35:52,823

had contacted a priest. He was,

in fact, planning a ceremony.

539

00:35:55,008 --> 00:35:59,168

His funeral.

No. No.

540

00:35:59,208 --> 00:36:03,408

He was planning to renew

his marriage vows... to Henrietta.

541

00:36:03,448 --> 00:36:07,648

It was a surprise, and obviously a

surprise to you, too, by the looks

of it.

542

00:36:07,688 --> 00:36:10,088

It's a bit odd, isn't it?

543

00:36:10,223 --> 00:36:13,023

That he wanted to commit suicide

so soon, with you,

544

00:36:13,063 --> 00:36:15,303

when he had such big plans for

the future.

545

00:36:18,463 --> 00:36:23,423

Tell the truth. Who really injected

Terrence? I did. It was me.

546

00:36:24,863 --> 00:36:26,863

Matt, look at me. Tell me.

547

00:36:27,623 --> 00:36:29,623

I did it, it was me. I did it.

548

00:36:43,503 --> 00:36:48,543

He comes across to me as the kind of

guy who doesn't have the balls

to carry this kind of thing out.

549

00:36:48,583 --> 00:36:54,303

And Jess's whole "I'm a helpless

victim" routine is, it's weak.

550

00:36:54,343 --> 00:36:57,783

I mean, she clearly dominates him -

and he lets her. Big time.

551

00:36:57,823 --> 00:37:01,823

We could interview him until kingdom

come but he's not gonna suddenly

552

00:37:01,863 --> 00:37:05,703

turn around and backtrack on his

confession and implicate his wife.

553

00:37:05,743 --> 00:37:07,743

So we have to find another way.

554

00:37:08,423 --> 00:37:10,423

Maybe Edna?

555

00:37:11,223 --> 00:37:15,143

I've been through the various routes

Jess would've used to get to Edna's,

556

00:37:15,183 --> 00:37:20,103

particularly the one she would've

used to evade capture. Side streets,

small alleyways,

557

00:37:20,143 --> 00:37:24,263

there's no CCTV on them whatsoever.

Where does Edna live? There.

558

00:37:24,303 --> 00:37:27,063

Have we checked

the congestion charging cameras?

559

00:37:27,103 --> 00:37:29,983

I think that might be

just inside the zone.

560

00:37:30,023 --> 00:37:32,023

Yes!

561

00:37:38,063 --> 00:37:40,063

Boss?

562

00:37:40,663 --> 00:37:41,823

Yeah.

563

00:37:41,863 --> 00:37:45,223

This is Jess Holland entering

the congestion charging zone

564

00:37:45,263 --> 00:37:48,103

near Edna Locke's house

at eight o'clock yesterday,

565

00:37:48,143 --> 00:37:50,863

which is two hours later

than she said she was there.

566

00:37:50,903 --> 00:37:55,703

It means she doesn't have an alibi

for the time Terrence was injected.

Yeah, that's good,

567

00:37:55,743 --> 00:37:59,943

but that's not proof that

she actually injected Terrence.

568

00:37:59,983 --> 00:38:02,103

So we've got to link her

to the syringe.

569

00:38:02,143 --> 00:38:06,743

We'll never find that.

We looked in Terrence's house.

It could be anywhere.

570

00:38:06,783 --> 00:38:10,623

We thought we couldn't find

the syringe cos we were looking

at his flat.

571

00:38:10,663 --> 00:38:15,423

Now we have a suspect, that gives us

a number of other options we didn't

think about. Right.

572

00:38:15,463 --> 00:38:20,503

She may have turned up at Edna's.

We know she was near there at eight,

perhaps after Terrence's,

573

00:38:20,543 --> 00:38:24,303

and thought, fuck, I've got

the syringe. Edna's got a Sharps

box, a bin,

574

00:38:24,343 --> 00:38:27,583

any number of places she could've

hidden it. Have you looked?

575

00:38:27,623 --> 00:38:33,103

Stop waving that thing in my face.

Please tell me - Hello. Sorry.

576

00:38:33,143 --> 00:38:37,183

I'll take over from here. Edna,

this is your copy of the warrant,

577

00:38:37,223 --> 00:38:40,983

as I'm sure my colleague tried

to explain. Why's he got a warrant?

578

00:38:41,023 --> 00:38:42,743

Edna,

579

00:38:42,783 --> 00:38:46,543

I know you lied to me about the time

Jess was here last night.

580

00:38:46,583 --> 00:38:51,703

And also would you mind bagging up

this box, please? We're gonna take

your Sharps container.

581

00:38:58,343 --> 00:39:00,663

You did lie, didn't you,

about last night?

582

00:39:01,983 --> 00:39:05,623

Well, all right,

but you've got it all wrong.

583

00:39:07,103 --> 00:39:12,903

Jess didn't try to murder anybody.

Terrence asked her to help him.

584

00:39:12,943 --> 00:39:15,743

She was going to help him to do it.

585

00:39:15,783 --> 00:39:17,943

I'm afraid, Edna,

that Jess lied to you.

586

00:39:17,983 --> 00:39:21,423

Terrence wasn't ready to die.

He didn't want to die. Yes, he was.

587

00:39:21,463 --> 00:39:24,983

He was about to renew his vows.

He had a lot to live for.

588

00:39:27,303 --> 00:39:29,303

To Henrietta?

Yeah.

589

00:39:33,103 --> 00:39:35,103

Oh, no.

590

00:39:35,423 --> 00:39:37,303

Here's what I think.

591

00:39:37,343 --> 00:39:42,023

Jess hears about the credit card

company calling Terrence from you.

592

00:39:42,063 --> 00:39:46,263

She decides to take evasive action,

decides to come to Terrence's house,

593

00:39:46,303 --> 00:39:51,863

decides to polish him off, get rid of

him before he can say anything about

it. So for that reason, Matt,

594

00:39:51,903 --> 00:39:54,503

we are now charging Jess with

attempted murder.

595

00:39:54,543 --> 00:39:57,943

She told me

that he asked her to do it.

596

00:39:58,703 --> 00:40:03,383

Why are you standing up for this

woman who has tried to murder

your brother, OK,

597

00:40:03,423 --> 00:40:06,503

and is trying to defraud him

of what could be millions?

598

00:40:07,463 --> 00:40:10,783

Because she's my wife.

She said that I should do it.

599

00:40:10,823 --> 00:40:16,663

I should be the one to do it but I

wasn't man enough. It's not your job

to carry the can for this woman.

600

00:40:16,703 --> 00:40:18,703

OK? Tell the truth.

601

00:40:20,183 --> 00:40:25,623

It was my fault. Jesus! I created

the problem with the credit cards,

and she said I should've solved it.

602

00:40:25,663 --> 00:40:28,583

If she asked you to jump off

a fucking cliff, would you?

603

00:40:34,583 --> 00:40:38,183

We've found this syringe in the

Sharps box at Edna Locke's house.

604

00:40:38,223 --> 00:40:41,543

It's got your fingerprints on it.

Now we're running it for DNA,

605

00:40:41,583 --> 00:40:44,423

but what's the betting Terrence's

will be on there?

606

00:40:45,823 --> 00:40:51,383

Yeah, well, I... Terrence asked me

to help him die - and I did.

607

00:40:51,423 --> 00:40:54,303

Did Matt know that you

planned to kill his brother? No.

608

00:40:54,343 --> 00:40:56,823

No, because Matt wouldn't...

609

00:40:56,863 --> 00:41:01,303

Matt wouldn't have been able to go

through with it, that's why Terrence

asked me.

610

00:41:01,343 --> 00:41:04,943

Because Matt's weak, he wouldn't be

up to doing something...

611

00:41:04,983 --> 00:41:08,823

Did you know Henrietta was there?

No. In the flat? No.

612

00:41:09,623 --> 00:41:11,983

No, why would I know that...?

I don't...

613

00:41:12,023 --> 00:41:17,743

Well, you might have guessed because

her sleeping pills were there on

display.

614

00:41:17,783 --> 00:41:20,263

Terrence asked me to

use her sleeping pills

615

00:41:20,303 --> 00:41:22,343

because he wanted to

die in his sleep.

616

00:41:22,383 --> 00:41:25,103

So you knew those sleeping pills

belonged to her.

617

00:41:25,143 --> 00:41:28,943

You don't seem very surprised, given

that you didn't know, apparently,

618

00:41:28,983 --> 00:41:32,823

that Henrietta and Terrence were

back together. No, I didn't. I...

619

00:41:32,863 --> 00:41:37,063

Um... Let me ask you again. Did you

know Henrietta was in the flat?

620

00:41:37,103 --> 00:41:41,503

No. No. It's handy though, isn't it,

that she was there?

621

00:41:41,543 --> 00:41:43,823

What do you mean? Why?

Someone to blame

622

00:41:43,863 --> 00:41:48,103

is kind of what I'm saying. No,

I didn't do it with someone to blame.

623

00:41:48,143 --> 00:41:49,943

I was helping Terrence.

624

00:41:49,983 --> 00:41:54,863

I'm actually finding this really

stressful because I was helping him.

625

00:41:55,783 --> 00:41:57,783

He... He's Matt's brother

626

00:41:58,703 --> 00:42:02,143

and he... he wanted to die.

627

00:42:02,183 --> 00:42:04,463

And the court said that he wasn't...

628

00:42:05,783 --> 00:42:07,783

That... I'm sorry, I'm just...

629

00:42:09,303 --> 00:42:11,303

Jess Holland,

630

00:42:11,343 --> 00:42:16,863

I think the only person you were

really trying to help was yourself.

631

00:42:16,903 --> 00:42:19,423

You were stealing from

your brother-in-law,

632

00:42:19,463 --> 00:42:22,143

he was about to find out,

so you tried to kill him.

633

00:42:22,183 --> 00:42:24,183

You're going to prison, love.

634

00:42:25,423 --> 00:42:27,943

I went to see Henrietta at

the hospital. Mm-hm?

635

00:42:27,983 --> 00:42:31,223

I nearly let slip about Terrence

wanting to renew their vows.

636

00:42:31,263 --> 00:42:34,383

I felt like we put her through

the mill last night and today.

637

00:42:34,423 --> 00:42:36,223

I wanted to have some good news.

638

00:42:36,263 --> 00:42:40,823

We put her through the mill, or you

did? What's that meant to mean?

639

00:42:40,863 --> 00:42:43,743

You had her in your eyeline

from the get-go.

640

00:42:43,783 --> 00:42:47,983

May I remind you that you very much

took my Henrietta bone and ran with it.

641

00:42:48,023 --> 00:42:52,023

My granny used to always say, "Don't

ever let me rot away in a nursing home,

642

00:42:52,063 --> 00:42:56,623

put me out of my misery before it gets

that way." It's such a hard decision.

643

00:42:56,663 --> 00:42:58,983

It's getting old.

No-one wants to get old.

644

00:42:59,023 --> 00:43:02,343

Listen, I'll buy you a pint.

You're going to buy me a pint? Yeah.

645

00:43:02,383 --> 00:43:04,383

I will take that.

646

00:43:10,543 --> 00:43:12,903

I dread getting called out

to this shithole.

647

00:43:12,943 --> 00:43:16,583

There's a massive concentrated

pool of blood. She was stabbed here.

648

00:43:16,623 --> 00:43:19,863

I've spoken to the head teacher at

Baringford High School.

649

00:43:19,903 --> 00:43:22,423

The Oyster card is

registered to Anna Fisher.

650

00:43:23,303 --> 00:43:25,143

She's 13 years old. 13? Yeah.

651

00:43:25,183 --> 00:43:28,183

I've got the results from Anna's

physical examination.

652

00:43:28,223 --> 00:43:31,623

Four different DNA samples found,

three as yet unidentified.

653

00:43:31,663 --> 00:43:35,543

One's from Nathan Cole, a registered

sex offender living in Birmingham.

654

00:43:35,583 --> 00:43:38,303

A schoolgirl out at

that time of night

655

00:43:38,343 --> 00:43:40,903

and you just were a Good Samaritan?

656

00:43:40,943 --> 00:43:44,863

And this Good Samaritan

didn't even call the police.

657

00:43:48,023 --> 00:43:50,023

Let me tell you something.

658

00:43:50,063 --> 00:43:55,663

Anna was eight weeks pregnant

when she was stabbed.

659

00:43:59,303 --> 00:44:03,423

She has suffered a miscarriage,

she is underage,

660

00:44:03,463 --> 00:44:05,823

you have already fucked up!

661

00:44:05,863 --> 00:44:09,543

Police!

Police! Police!

662

00:44:10,628 --> 00:44:39,828

suspectsep4-28.jpg

Scene 2: (01.10-01.52)

Jack talks to Dr Melanie Standish who called the police. She says she arrived at the house earlier that evening to hear what she thought was row between Terence and his wife Henrietta, who are going through a bitter divorce, so she left them to it and went for a walk. when she returned she knocked, no one answered, she couldn't hear any voices, became concerned, rang Terence's mobile got no reply and was worried so she called the police.

suspectsep4-29.jpg

Scene 3: (01.53-02.39)

Jack and Charlie are still in the house, Henrietta was found "out for the count" in the bedroom when the police arrived earlier. Jack asks forensics if they've found any "sharps" (needles), but there are none in the house. Terence has an advanced stage of cancer and could not have injected himself. Charlie says it is pretty straightforward "wife Henrietta has tried to help Terence to die".

Jack replies, "woah, woah, woah, woah, woah, don't start jumping to conclusions, that's my job"

suspectsep4-78.jpg

Scene 4: (02.40-03.31) Charlie interviews wife Henrietta at headquarters, who says they talked and Terence fell asleep, she was tired so took some sleeping pills and fell asleep about 7pm, before the row was overheard by Dr Standish.

Scene 5: (03.32-04.15)

Jack and Charlie are at their desks. Jack has info on Terence up on his computer, he set up Euthanasia UK and Dr Melanie Standish is an ardent supporter of the campaign. There were no signs of forced entry to the house, so Jack suggests they find anyone who had access, and Terence could have been rowing with, like family. Charlie has been looking for his brother Matt Holland but cannot find him, and has spoken to his wife Jess.

 suspectsep4-31.jpg

Scene 6: (04.16-05.09)

Jack and Charlie interview Jess Holland at the hospital. She says Terence has been really positively lately. She has a key but that evening was at friend Edna Locks' house from about 6ish for a couple of hours. Matthew (brother/husband) was out with friends and does not know about Terence.

 suspectsep4-32.jpg

Scene 7: (05.10-6.22)

Jack, Charlie are in the main office. The toxicology report show Terence suffered a morphine overdose and traces of Zopiclone (sleeping tab) were also found. Henrietta's sleeping tablets were found in the kitchen area and Terence's medication log book shows there is a vial of morphine missing from the fridge. Martha suggests they need to find out how the pills were administered. Jack has been in touch with Terence and Henrietta's solicitors, divorce papers were sent to H a month ago and she still hasn't signed them, as T is well off, could there may be a financial motive for his murder?

suspectsep4-32b.jpg

Scene 8: (06.23-07.14)

On the sleeping evidence, Jack and Charlie go to the hospital to arrest Henrietta. Jack asks Charlie if she wants to do it, she says no. Jack arrests her on suspicion of assisting a suicide, she protests and Jack says he doesn't want to have to use handcuffs, "Let's go quickly, let's go quietly".

suspectsep4-33.jpg

Scene 9: (07.15-08.49)

Jack interviews Henrietta (solicitor present) who says she hasn't signed the divorce papers because they decided to give it a go, kept it quiet to avoid outside pressure from family. Jack asks her about the sleeping pills and the argument, she claims there was no argument, they talked for a hour then she went to sleep.

"Well, we've found traces of the pills in his system. Just something for you to think about."

"You're husband has a lot of money, he's terminally ill and I  think you wanna get your hands on that...."

"...You gave him sleeping pills, you knocked him out and you dosed him up to the gills with morphine ok..."

she strongly protests she would never have done that.

suspectsep4-35.jpg

Scene 10: (8.50-09.01)

Martha and Jack walk to the office, Martha asks if Jack bought Henrietta's story he replies "I can't figure out if she's genuine upset or if she's bullshitting us. Ok, but if I was a betting man, I'd say that this argument was about money".

suspectsep4-37.jpg

Scene 11: (09.02-09.55) Charlie interviews Edna in her home, who corroborates that Jess visited her last night. Charlie notices Edna's morphine, she also has cancer, and discovers that her care nurse is Matt, Terence's brother, who gives her the morphine injections.

Scene 12: (09.56-10.43)

Back at the office Charlie tells Martha that Matt is Edna's care nurse and knows how to administer morphine and that she had traced him to a casino last night but no sign of him now. Jack tells them forensics had found Terence has definitely drunk something laced with Henrietta's sleeping pills and a mug had been found with a powdery residue, from which fingerprints had been deliberately wiped off.

Martha "It doesn't sound like an assisted suicide Jack"

Jack "No, it's looking like an attempted murder"

suspectsep4-39.jpg

Scene 13: (10.44-11.02)

Martha points out that someone removed the syringe from the house, if they can identify it was Henrietta, it will "deconstruct her alibi", but Charlie reports back to Jack and Martha that sleeping tablets were found in Henrietta's system.

suspectsep4-40.jpg

Scene 14: (11.03-11.35)

Jack interviews Henrietta again, in quite an aggressive manner, pointing out the evidence of sleeping tablets in Terence's coffee cup

"You and Terrence were alone in the house, he can't walk, he can't feed himself, you had the sleeping tablets, the sleeping tablets are in his system. Explain that. "

Henrietta passionately reiterates she did not give him the sleeping pills.

suspectsep4-41.jpg

Scene 15: (11.36-12.22)

Jack has been through Terence's mobile phone history. He has made a lot of contact with the rectory at St Sebastian's church. He had a call with Dr Standish yesterday afternoon as well as a 30 min call from the fraud dept at a credit card company, who said that it was to do with a credit card that was completely maxed out with no repayments made on it, but T denied all knowledge of the card. Jack wonders if someone who has access to T's flat is defrauding him for money.

suspectsep4-42.jpg

Scene 16: (12.23-13.09)

Jack tells Charlie the credit card has solely been used for withdrawing money from ATMs and questions whether Matt and jess Holland have access to the flat, indicating his suspicion that they could be suspects now. Martha calls them n to her office to tell them Matt has been found sleeping off a hangover on a park bench.

Scene 17: (13.10-14.19)

Jack interviews Matt, who says he was at a party last night. Jack asks why he is not providing Terence with any are himself considering it is his field of work as a care nurse, Matt replies it is too much for him to take on, but his brother has the best care money can buy with a private GP

suspectsep4-44.jpg

Scene 18: (14.20-14.41) Charlie interview Jess, who seems surprised about Matt being found on a park bench and says they are saving up for a flat.

Scene 19: (14.42-15.25)

Jack has further info on Terence's bank account and financial transactions, a payment of £12,000 was made to Dr Melanie Standish after the phone call they had yesterday afternoon. Charlie questions if that is T paying her to help him end his life. Martha points out it is not enough money for a private GP, which is a highly lucrative career, but wants her movements corroborated fro last night.

suspectsep4-45.jpg

Scene 20: (15.26-16.15)

the team watch cctv footage of Dr Standish, which shows her bumping into Terence's neighbour who said she seemed tense and stressed out. Charlie makes supposition that was because she was on her way to administer a near lethal drug overdose.

suspectsep4-47.jpg

Jack points out she was the one who called the police, Charlie suggests so that she can "get in there and corrupt the crime scene". Martha advises to focus on the evidence they do have, the payment of 12,000.

suspectsep4-48.jpg

Scene 21: (16.16-16.55)

The Three detectives are in Martha's office. Martha has spoken to the hospital Terence is out of intensive care but heavily sedated. Charlie has found that Dr Standish was subject to an internal investigation 2 years ago when working at a hospital, due to filing a 'do not resuscitate' file for an elderly patient against the family's wishes.

suspectsep4-49.jpg

Scene 22: (16.56-17.43)

Jack and Charlie go to the hospital where Dr Standish works, to arrest her on suspicion of attempted assisted suicide. Jack lets Charlie make the arrest, Dr Standish protests and Jack tells her "we will cuff you if you do not go willingly".

Scene 23: (17.44-19.19)

Jack and Charlie interview Dr Standish, who says she only noticed the 12,000 deposited into her business account by Terence that morning, and that she presumes he put it there because she was angry when he put her name in the public domain, (she is trustee of his right-to-die organisation), but doesn't want the money. She reiterates the events of the previous night confirming she does have a key to T's flat, but she does not know where it is. Charlie tells her they will be searching her flat and car and Dr S is outraged, telling them when the investigation is over, "your superiors will be hearing from me".

"Am I free to leave now?

"No absolutely not, you stay where you are"

suspectsep4-51.jpg

Scene 24: (19.20-19.45)

Jack oversees the inspection of Dr S's car, when forensics find a key on the front seat.

suspectsep4-53.jpg

Scene 25: (19.46 -20.06)

Jack and Charlie briefly discuss Dr Standish having a key to the flat, and if she was helping T with an assisted suicide why would he do that knowing Henrietta was still in the flat. Jack suggest talking to Henrietta again.

suspectsep4-54.jpg

Scene 26: (20.07-20.31) Charlie interviews Henrietta, who says Terence would not have known she stayed in the flat as he fell asleep first, and she left her sleeping pills on the work surface

Scene 27: (20.32-21.03)

Jack and Charlie discuss the case again, Jack asks why would Dr S have used sleeping pills, she would have known morphine was enough to kill Terence. Martha comes in to tell them that the sole beneficiary of Terence's will is sister-in-law Jess, not brother Matt, and Dr S is the executor.

Jack "Were you guys talking about me? I heard 'clearly gorgeous' "

Martha "oh.. clearly deluded"

Jack "Ok, thank you"

Charlie and Jack speak to Martha in her office . Jess was captured on the congestion charging zone area going to Edna's house at 8pm, 2 hours later than she said meaning she has no alibi for the time Terence was injected. Martha points out it is not evidence she actually did it, she needs to be linked with the syringe, which was not found at Terence's house. Charlie suggests now Jess is a suspect, she could have hidden the syringe at Edna's house.

suspectsep4-74.jpg

Scene 46: (38.27-39.35) Charlie and a police team search Edna's house, Charlie talks to Edna who admits she lied about last night, but said Jess had only wanted to help Terence, he had asked her to. Charlie told her Jess lied as T was about to renew his vows.

Jack interviews Matt again, telling him that they are charging Jess with attempted murder. Matt says that Jess told him Terence asked him to do it. Jack becomes irate, asking why he is standing up for her, when she tried to kill him and defraud him of what could be millions. Matt said Jess had said he wasn't man enough and it was his fault.

"if she asked you jump of a fucking cliff would you do the same?"

Scene 48: (40.40-42.24) Martha and Charlie interview Jess, showing her the syringe that they found at Edna's house which ahs her fingerprints on it. Jess responds that Terence asked her to help him die, so he did, but that matt didn't know because he is weak and wouldn't have been able to go through with it and that she did not know Henrietta was in the flat at the time.

Martha: "Jess Holland, I think the only person you were really trying to help was yourself. You were stealing from your brother-in-law, he was about to find out, so you tried to kill him. You're going to prison love."

Scene 49: (42.25-end)

Jack and Charlie are on the rooftop, discussing Henrietta.

suspectsep4-77.jpg

Charlie: "I went to see Henrietta at the hospital. "

Jack: "yeah?"

Charlie: "I really nearly let slip about Terrence wanting to renew their vows. I just, I felt like we really put her through the mill last night and today. I wanted to have some good news."

Jack: "like we put her through the mill, or you really put her through the mill?

Charlie: "What's that supposed to mean? what's that supposed to mean?"

 Jack: "You had her in your eye line from the get-go."

Charlie: "May I remind you that you very much took my Henrietta bone and ran with it."

Jack: "My granny used to always say, "Don't ever let me rot away in a nursing home, put me out of my misery before it gets that way." "

Charlie: "It's such a hard decision."

Jack: "It's getting old man. No-one wants to get old. Listen, I'll buy you a pint.

Charlie: "You're going to buy me a pint? "

Jack: "Yeah."

 Charlie: "I will take that."

HOW DID I MISS THIS?!?!

Can't decide if he's trying to be a serious Damien, or a serious Jack or what.

I love it whimsy, on the rooftop and everything

I don't think you can introduce this kind of show in an unserious manner, considering the subject matter, but it seemed like both Jack and Damien to me!

Yup, after a few watches I feel the same way, it's a little bit of both.  I have the sense that he was grabbed and told "here, say this" and he didn't really have a chance to get fully into character! I wish it were just Damien, like in the interview/promos for S1.  With under a week to go seems like we should be seeing/hearing some Damo interviews...
