"I always dread the day I get called out to this shithole."

This is a strong reaction from Jack. Do you think he's been called here before or is this personal somehow?

that first screencap has to be my favourite Jack pic....

surely there should be an award for Jack for the most swearing in the opening scene....?

So as seems to be the norm for Suspects, the opening scene is Jack and Charlie at the crime scene, and Jack really doesn't like this place....

From his reaction, it's quite obvious that it's a notorious park. I suspect all the officers in that bit of London has to spend time investigating round there or general policing of the area.

DIs wouldn't turn up for initial calls unless it's a murder...send in the lackeys first, lol.

It was really heavy topic in this one but for once the start was in daylight (usually everything happens in night so it was nice change there was some crime they started to solve in morning). I don't know was this the second one after the first ep that the episode starts with daylight scenes?

Jack seemed to be really angry and irritated somehow in this ep, from the start. The looks and the way he talked.. I dunno. Heavy topic, no smiles, lots of anger...

I'm surprised that if that park is as notorious as they make it out to be, he hasn't been called out there before.  Makes me wonder just how long he's been doing this particular job.

I think this was the most grim of all of the episodes.  It was even worse for me than the first episode.  Heavy.

That occurred to me to Whimsy.

He wouldn't know it was rough if it didn't have a reputation either amongst other officers or personal experience.

That's why I was a bit confused at his reaction.

good observation Jozie, episode 1 and 3 were day time opening scenes if memory serves

I wasnt sure if he had been there before whimsy, agree with you kat a notorious park obvs, but there was a suggestion of more than that maybe...

Jacks mood caught on me and I was really serious when I watched this ep... I wondered that line too Jane, maybe Jack was having a bad day. From the start.

Definitely the most grim episode, and one that it seems Jack reacted to very strongly.  I don't want to get ahead in the scenes but some of his comments almost felt personal.  Or it's that the victim was so young.

I presume he knows about the knife still being in her stomach, and that she's young, so it's doubly strange and disconcerting.

Yes, even in London, you don't expect young people to be attacked in this way.

I think maybe abuse of children affects him more than the other cases.

I hope it wasn't anything personal. Perhaps because in this ep there was heavy topic and some fighting Damien thought that in this ep Jack is having a bad day and he's showing it. Or that maybe this is hard case for him for some reason...

Hmmm thought: maybe he's a child abuse victim?

so it opens with various info, but at this point Jack has no strong hunch on who the suspect is... that comes full force later. the heaviest info in these first scenes is the young age of the victim, who they identify. harrowing indeed.

You do need a different mindset for cases involving kids, partly why there's a whole different unit - CEOP - to deal with them.
