I don't know if anyone is interested....but Mick Donnellan (the writer) has some short stories on his wordpress site.  I wondered if they might give some more insight into the flavour of the film......

http://mickdonnellan.wordpress.com/short-stories/

They are pretty dark!! But they are beautifully written - he produces some wonderful imagery -  "The night above like black cider and ice cube vodka stars."  He's just had his second novel published.....I may have to buy one of them.

fifi, that first short story is very "stream of consciousness"... and quite allegorical.  paints very vivid pictures, though the subject wasn't to my taste.  However, I'm liking the gritty darkness of it.  I don't want to make presumptions, but it seems Damien is attracted to dark(er) roles.  Which makes me so, so happy.  (still would like to see him smile a bit)

and film poster!  squeeee...

 Absolutely!

It's strange, but I'm sure that when I first found the site there were 3 stories.  I'm sure I didn't imagine the last one as it involed disposing of some bodies with a lawnmower - not the kind of thing which usually springs from my imagination.........decidedly dark!

In depth new interview with Mick Donnellan, mainly on his new novel 'Fisherman's Blues' (which sounds fascinating, thanks for posting about it fifi!) but also with mention of 'Tiger Raid'...

He has seen footage!!!

Also, in contrast to the previous article posted, according to this, release is early 2015.

(let's skip over the name misspelling....)

Earlier this year, Radio Luxembourg, Mick’s fifth play, was bought by London-based company, Story Film, and has been adapted for the screen. Its cinematic release is due in early 2015 and the cast will involve the best of new talent including Brian Gleeson, Damian Moloney, and Sofia Boutella. The title for the movie version will be Tiger Raid.

“I’m looking forward to Tiger Raid a lot,” Donnellan enthuses. “I was in Jordan in September where we had the shoot and I had a great time there. The actors and crew were very good and it’s very well shot. I saw some footage recently and it looks very sharp. It was a bit surreal to finally see it on screen like that but it’s all going very well.”

Here is a photo of Mick Donnellan during filming in Jordan, via his website

Whii! "..it looks very sharp" My my, something tells me that there will be a lot of action! And I can't help imagine Damien in middle of it!action

Just one thing puts me down which I have been fearing all this time and I think I need to get it off my chest now: I hope they got good training with guns and this pic is before training. Soldiers/people with training never keep their finger on the trigger unless they are aiming and made the one last decision to shoot. This one rule is global, and it's most important rule for any soldier around the world. Cause if you can't handle your gun, you might as well not have it at all. If you see anyone holding gun like that, you can tell he doesn't know how to use it. Sometimes if I see something like this in middle of movie or series, it sort of takes me out of that world and it's hard to jump in again, it reminds me that they are actors and even actors gets stressed during filming, especially in military films and they forget things like that. So I hope I hope I hope they will not make that mistake and not pay attention one little (and same time big) thing that many people around will. no

Ok that's all! But anyway, have been dreaming about combat trousers and bare chests and intense action scenes. And I think Damien himself will take me very well out of this world no matter what he does. He sort have that kind of effect on me.

Great insights Jozie, thank you.
Worth pointing out that the photo is of the writer, not the actors, and therefore not in the film.
Also, the actors received training from special ops experts MissionX who also provided their expert advice for the film, so fingers crossed all that will be taken care of.

Talking of MissionX, Tiger Raid is now listed on their website:

Jozie, thanks for your comment on proper training and gun use. I was raised with hunting rifles and shotguns, and gun safety was hammered into me from early childhood. It is so annoying to see foolish mistakes made in films. Having said that, I'll bet Damien gets it right. He's meticulous and thoughtful in his craft, he pays attention to the details. His authenticity is part of what captivates us. I

'm so looking forward to seeing Tiger Raid! Sunscreen and shades, baby, all the way!

Hunting rifles and shotguns? That's like so cool TJ! And yes, I bet Damien will pay attention to this, in his many projects he likes to think more bigger pic, history of the character and little details. Glad to know I'm not the only one to pay attention to this! :) Still, this is something I have been really wait for, like I said., combat trousers+Damien.. There's something to think about!!

Guns are completely alien to me so this would not be something I'd even notice, and tend to overlook anything which pulls me out of the total immersion in the eacapism in films (and other art) unless it is glaringly difficult to do so.. and it sounds like this would be the case for both of you TJ and Jozie. Damien would probably be doing what he is told to do with the guns, but as mentioned, they have the experts advising so let's assume it will be a non issue.

I am still vey intrigued by the costume.. makeup.. beard... combats... it's going to be a thrill to see Damien in character for the first time!

WE HAVE A CHARACTER NAME!

According to Damien's Spotligh profile, his character in 'Tiger Raid' (just added.. YAY!) is called

(drum roll please....)

PADDY!

Could you get more perfect?

I've only just registered this little tidbit of info.  So it would seem that the characters names are unchanged from the stage production that it's based on.....but, contrary to what I expected - Damien is Paddy!  Although I guess it's still a bit presumptious to assume that the character of Paddy is the same as the one in the play.....maybe?

Mick Donnellan also wrote the screenplay so I am guessing it may be really quite similar.

And look what he just tweeted!

tigerraid15.jpg

another little tidbit I found (aplogies if it has bee shareed before, there is lots of info in this topic!) in an early piece from last year:

"Writer Mick Donnellan, who based the script on his play 'Radio Luxembourg' said the screenplay could be compared to black comedies such as 'In Bruges' and 'Seven Psychopaths'".

Love both those films

So let me get this straight, Damien is playing the guy who seems fairly good at first, but then his darker side is revealed as the film progresses?  I can live with that...

It looks as if Paddy does indeed come out as the bad guy at the end. This is the description of Paddy in Mick Donnellan's play, from which the screenplay is adapted:

(I'd not fully registered it before, but love this idea that their make up (which we mentioned a few posts back) gradually comes off symbolic of them revealing more about themselves.)

Donnellan’s writing holds no punches, the dialogue he has created between the two protagonists Joe (Neil Molloy) and Paddy (Callaghan O’Connell), is fast paced, ricocheting off a myriad of emotions, from Joe’s deep despair and loneliness to Paddy’s misplaced feelings of love for former girlfriend Samantha, played by Zaina Newesser.
The play takes place in the sitting room of the daughter of a bank manager. The men plan to hold her ransom. At first everything seems to be going to plan, but, like many of the plays produced by Truman Town Theatre, things take a drastic and unexpected turn.
As Joe and Paddy reveal more about themselves to each other, their intimidating, scary clown makeup gradually diminishes, representing their vulnerabilities coming out into the open.
At first, the audience sees Joe as the bad guy, who speaks of killing his brother and wife for having an affair and burying them under his garden, while Paddy comes across as the rookie who wants to patch things up with his ex-girlfriend.
But as the 70-minute play progresses, Joe emerges as the vulnerable one of the pair who describes living alone in his ‘lonely skin’ with a house that smells of ‘mothballs and cheese’. Joe lives for the job, and indeed is prepared to die for the job. And it becomes apparent that Paddy’s darker side involves a long list of abuses of his former girlfriend.

Oh I latched onto the makeup coming of right away!

Hmm, wonder if the secrets will be the same.  In the play they had someone play the gf, but I don't see it practical for a gf to show up in the desert.

Brilliant news, great info finds Domino & Whimsy!

I have to say I'm liking the idea of a black comedy & the initial casting of Robert Sheehan makes sense to me for it to be this genre. I'm now thinking along the line of In Bruges but set in the desert....

Yay! I was on the right lines.

The more I hear of this film the more I like the sound of it.
