I think Jack's reaction to Saul was so dogged that it made it seem like it wouldn't be Saul, if that makes sense. The viewer sees all these different strands coming together and so it just seems strange that Jack won't accept it.

Jack is really treating Charlie unfairly here.  He's too emotional, too stuck in his head, in his past.  He's really giving Charlie the wrong end of the stick.  He could have tried to make her see his side of it, even without bringing his past into it.  Charlie is good at following the evidence, he knows this.  I kinda wanted to slap Jack at this point.

And then later in the locker room, the cigarette packet & lighter.  *tuts*

he really is rude, and sarcastic. Charlie does well not to retaliate, a sign that she cares and obviously has sensed all is not well for him regarding this particular case.

agree whimsy, he is so absorbed in his own stuff here. he can't see how it effects everyone around him - or his abilities as a detective. He is lost in it.

I think Sadie saw that Jack got his eyes on Saul, so she wanted to talk to him only so she could make Saul seem more guilty...

I was certain it wouldn't be Saul....at least I hoped they wouldn't be that predictable! Jack's repetition of 'gut instinct' annoyed me....just a bit too cock sure. But it also make me think he was trying to convince himself he was right.

agree, Sadie totally plays on Jack's sensibilities and obvious prejudices.

Annoyed me too but also amused me. But it also made me feel (and hope) that Saul would be innocent and Jack could learn a lesson. But I wasn't sure what was going to happen..

fifi that was the first time we'd heard Jack use the term gut instinct, I kind of wished it would have been not when he was using it in such a pointed way.

as I said earlier, when Saul didn't realize it was red knickers, I ruled him out completely.

It was becoming more obvious it wasn't Saul but Jack won't let it go. It makes him look unprofessional in the eyes of his colleagues.

But, who else was rubbing their hands together at all this Jack ambiguity and angst?

the focus on his character and the opportunity it gave Damien to explore those levels.. a real joy to watch!

I was! And I wasn't sure should I not feel joy about this and does it make me a sort of horrible person but then I realized that it's just Molony effect and everything was fine! ;) New, emotional and angsty side of Jack was exciting!

well, yeah, the more Jack-centric the storyline the better!  Damien definitely got to stretch his acting chops in this episode, and all of S2.  I've always loved how involved Jack gets in the process, this is not the first time we see him affected, just the first time it really is due to a personal experience from his past.  I just wished he wasn't being such an a-hole at times! Lol

Boyfriend was downloading a game. He has put it on pause so I'm trying again.

No complaints from me about this series being Jack-centric!

Scenes 52 - 55 (20 mins)

Scene 52 ( 35.37  - 36.25 )

Things get heated between Martha and Jack when he talks to her in her office about Saul still being a suspect. She asks him not to bring his family history into the case, the row ends with Jack walking out and slamming the door.

JW: He's just bashed his appropriate adult for fuck's sake, and now we know that he's dangerous! Look, I feel Like I'm bashing my head against a brick wall here, the guy is a paranoid schizophrenic, he hallucinates, he's got delusions, he hears voices, his story's gone back and forth, he can't remember stuff, he sees someone in the square, he hears someone in the bathroom, you can't believe a fucking word this guy says.

MB: Can you not bring your family history into...

JW: Don't..

MB: ...the room and onto the case, it's not useful for me and it's not useful for nailing the arsehole that has done this. You're on the verge of pissing me off.

JW: I think we've made a massive mistake discounting him as a suspect.

MB: His history is not one of violence towards people, it's violence towards property.

JW: Yeh well, tell that to my Mother.

Scene 53 ( 36.26 - 37.10 )

A troubled Jack is sitting on the rooftop steps smoking, when Charlie approaches him to say that uniform cannot find Saul at the hostel and none of the residents know where he has gone. Charlie offers Jack a listening ear, which he rejects.

CS: Look, I know you're my Sergeant and everything but if you ever want to talk about anything...

JW: Charlie, you know, I've bored myself half to death talking about it with people in the past, I'm not going to bore you with it to ok?

Scene 54 ( 37.11  -  37.48 )

Martha tells Charlie in her office that "top brass" say if they re-arrest Saul he has to be reassessed by a psychiatrist, and it is going to be a long night so she will call home and cancel pizza with her kids. Charlie asks if she knows what is wrong with Jack as he has been touchy and uptight all day, Martha responds "Charlie I'm going to give you the same answer that I'd give Jack if he came in and asked about your personal life, it is none of our business."

Scene 55 ( 37.49 - 38.05 )

Charlie shows Martha and Jack CCTV footage of Nate Turner running away from the crime scene.

Now things start really kicking off within the team and we get our first hint that this relates to Jack's family!
