Just found there are now more theaters in my area showing encore presentations in May, including the one closer to me that I like.    I have the tickets for Sae, TJ & Kimberfly to come see it with me Live (well, day of anyway, they aren't screening it till our evening) and I've already told several people I want to go see this again for my birthday. biggrin

The Hard Problem is No.100 in The Guardian's 150 unmissable arts events for 2015

100) The Hard Problem
It’s almost a decade since Tom Stoppard’s last play, Rock’n’Roll. There has been talk of writer’s block. No longer, as Nicholas Hytner directs the world premiere of a piece that examines consciousness, faith, psychology and biology and asks, What is it that makes us really human, and will the mind ever give up its secrets to the MRI scanner and the computer?
From 21 January to 16 April, Dorfman, London.

Seems a bit mean to list a production which has already sold out as unmissable!  I really can't help wondering if this is going to tour.....

Although it was no.100...it was actually listed as 2nd in the theatre section.  And, rather satifyingly for me (tho I doubt anyone else cares!) I not only have tickets for this....but also for their no.102 - The life and times of Fanny Hill at Bristol Old Vic

It did sell out technically, but the NT have since released a substantial amount of further seats - and although they are now sold, there are possibly more to come!

Not forgetting it is also broadast LIVE with NT Live... so it can still be unmissable

Oh, and

******19 days until The Hard Problem opens!!!!!!******

The Hard Problem is also featured in the Independent's Theatre Highlights of 2015

and the BBC's Theatre 2015: A Look Ahead

A nice mention of the actors themselves wouldn't go amiss!

I agree that a mention of the cast would be nice.....but I guess the buzz is all about Nichokas Hytner's last production, and Tom Stoppard's new play.  I'm just finding it really exciting to see it getting all of this hype!  Just wait until the reviews.....if they don't mention the cast then I'll be really pissed off!

Have I missed it or do we not yet know which character Damien is playing?

I was just thinking this today Rosie, it has not been officially announced whch character Damien is playing. The only known character casting is Olivia Vinal as Hilary, but can we have a guess based on the casting and play synopsis?

Hilary, a young psychology researcher at a brain-science institute, is nursing a private sorrow and a troubling question at work, where psychology and biology meet. If there is nothing but matter, what is consciousness?

This is ‘the hard problem’ which puts Hilary at odds with her colleagues who include her first mentor Spike, her boss Leo and the billionaire founder of the institute, Jerry.

Is the day coming when the computer and the fMRI scanner will answer all the questions psychology can ask?

Meanwhile Hilary needs a miracle, and she is prepared to pray for one.

Cast includes:

It's a bit difficult when the cast list has 8 names and we only have 4 characters to choose from!

Just as an aside - it's really is tremendously satisfying to see Damien's credits getting longer and longer with each production......

My feeling is those are the main characters mentioned and Damien will be playing one of the main characters!

For some reason I assumed that the mentor would be an older man, although Spike does sound like a younger person's name. And I'm assuming that Spike is a man! My guess would be the boss, Leo. Apart from Hilary none of the other female characters are mentioned so it could be that Damien is also playing a character that hasn't been mentioned.

fifi, I agree with you wholeheartedly, it is extremely gratifying to see his list of credits growing! Feel proud and a bit maternal (not weird at all?) about it. Our wee man is all grown up... smile

hard to guess at characters.  I would presume the mentor to be older as well, though I didn't assume Spike is a man.  I can see that as a cheeky nickname for a woman.  But could the name Jerry not also be a woman?  Just not enough info!

Mr. M has updated his twitter banner.  Unfortunately it's just the stock photo for the play, but it's always exciting when he broadcasts a new role.  In his own little way... lol

It could just be that I'm stupidly impatient (yes - I am stupidly impatient! ) but I'm surprised that with less than 2 weeks till the hard problem opens and we haven't had any more info yet.  Or.....to put it another way.......when are we gonna get some rehursal pics?!!

Yes fifi, they're very mysterious around this one. Perhaps they want to keep as much they can in the darkness until opening...

confuse
