Well, I've got to run.  I need to finish dinner.  It's been fun as always but I wish I had managed a real nap before the chat.  I've been struggling all evening.

Have a good evening y'all.

before the chat veers off in a more general direction... can we just mention the very last scene?

Charlie arrives, Jack is sitting over Edward with blood on his hands...

what did we all think has happened, on first viewing?

I am confident that "yet" is the operative word Whimsy.  It's just frustrating. And obviously someone else sees it or he would not get the roles, but still.  I think you know what I mean.

Jack has the experience so feels he can be more of a maverick - Charlie needs to show that she does things the right way at this stage in her career. But is Jack too confident? He thinks he's untouchable. The rules are there for a reason.

Both in the stages of their careers, but also in their personalities I think.  Charlie is a "by the book" type of person.  And very methodical.  That is her strength.  She's ferreted out so much in all their investigations.  Jack on the other hand has had quite a different career path than her.  After all, he was in the Flying Squad, right.  They are put into situations where they need to make split second, often life/death decisions.  Shoot first, ask questions later.  But also he comes from a long line of police.  It's in his blood.  So both their careers and personalities have influenced their styles.

As an aside, I felt Charlie got shafted this series, both in terms of relationship within the group, and also in terms of lack of backstory.  And I hope that is remedied next series!

Not a clue, Domino.  I knew he didn't kill anyone (unless it was self defense) but I was pretty confused.

To Be Honest domino, as I said before, I almost hoped he HAD done something very bad to Edward.  And also I had many Hal feels with the blood.

I was *fairly* sure Jack hadn't done anything but I loved that the episode ended with this doubt left in your mind - has Jack gone too far this time

the same for me I think Jane, I was just too gob smacked to form an idea of what had happened!

Charlie was freaked out too... what was she thinking I wonder.....

I agree with you on Charlie getting kind of shafted this series, Whimsy.  I'm glad we got to learn more about Jack and Martha though.  Maybe next series will focus more on Charlie.

I think that Charlie had the same doubts the viewers had - there was part of her that wasn't sure what Jack was capable of doing if pushed too far

I wondered if he really could have done anything to him, but I thought that he didn't do anything and it must have been someone else.

When Jack says "he's dead!" "he's fucking dead!" the ambiguity is there .... he doesn't want him dead he want to send him down.... that is what gave it away that he didn't kill him, he did not want him dead.

Another Suspects twist! If Jack didn't do it, then who did? Brilliantly set up for the next episode.

Agree with that Rosie..and the fact that she wondered, shows how troubled she has been / is by jack's potential to go off the rails.

HLH I guess it could have been someone connected to the whole paedophile hunt thing, it briefly crossed my mind about Rose and Kelly..... but at this point in time it hadn't entered my mind that there were unknown others could be involved in this case.

The first time, I thought it sounded more like he was dismissing him.  Like he didn't want Charlie to keep questioning because he might have been guilty after all.  (but in hindsight that doesn't make as much sense)  It's weird the confusion that goes through your head in that intense moment.  And that's I feel perfectly capturing the confusion Charlie probably felt!

I have to go very soon, so would this be a good time to wrap the Jack chat up?

yes to both your comments.

I was confused at how they scheduled S2, but at the time, faced with that type of cliffhanger, I was grateful to only have to wait one day to find out the truth!

Well, the chat seems to be coming to a natural end, thank you to all of you lovely chat buddies who came and took part again, you're all BRILLIANT and all your thoughts and time are much appreciated!

The next Jack Chat is a whole 2 weeks away, but that gives everyone plenty of time for a re-watch.

We will be discussing the final episode of series 2, so be sure to come along!
