Even though my initial top ten had Hal reaching into Eve's cot after Leo and Pearl had died as my most horror filled moment, I've voted for Hal being faced with Alex's dead body. This image really sticks with you.

All these screencaps are making me want to have a Being Human re-watch!

I voted for Hal killing Cutler's wife.  The horrific brutality of it, combined with the suspense building up to that moment, and bad Hal's sadistic, cruel nature during that time, sealed the deal for me.

So, after the discussion here about Hal killing Larry, I have been trying to think of another time when we SEE Hal kill... and there is one other time, when he 'stakes' Tom, which on first viewing appears to be a cold blooded killing but is in fact a dream. So for that reason is not technically killing?

Hearing about the many Hal has killed, or tangentially killed, or seeing the suggestion of a killing - is not necessarily any less chilling, but for me, less blatantly horrific... however, seeing Cutler's wife and Alex after being vampire killed was one of the moments when I turned away from the tv screen and felt overwhelmed by it.... so the jury is still out on my vote!

I vote for when Hal drinks Natasha's blood but that isn't on the poll.  That was the scene that filled me with the most horror.

My vote did go to:

When Hal succumbs to Snow and takes his place amongst the Old Ones in BH 4.08

Just because that was one moment I thought we lost him and there might be awful turn of events. Well, there was but also happy turn of events.

I find watching the whole 1950s flashbacks very uncomfortable. I can't stand 1950s Hal; he is so cruel and callous. It is difficult to reconcile that Hal with adorkable Hal. If Hal becomes worse each time 'bad' Hal returns I dread to think what else he would have done in the 'present'. There was always something quite glorious about 'bad' Hal in the other time periods we see him in, even when he kills everyone in the bar, but 1950s Hal is just unbearably terrible.

Drinking Alex,s blood from the floor. Hal knows its her blood and and has to be beyond desparation, and feel so awful as no cause to do it, unlike many of the other suggestions...

Well....it appears I never made my mind up....thanks for bumping this up, Kallie!

Coming back to this without thinking about it too hard I found it quite easy to decide - I voted for Natasha killing herself......

If my posts aren't too clear (last one wasn't) feel free to ask what I mean... Sometimes on here when tired and sometimes my brain works faster than my typing, especially if enthusiastic..

Kallie, licking the maggoty congealed blood from the floor was heartbreaking.  I can see the horror in it, but for me the horror is more for him, for the hold that it has on him and how he must have felt after resisting for so long (and being such a fastidious man) to have lowered himself to such an act of desperation.  Especially in front of Alex, who he clearly had begun having feelings for.

Fifi, omg, the look of horror on his face when Natasha did it! It was probably mirrored on my own face. I was completely shocked as I was expecting Hal to do something bad but instead it's the opposite.  In a completely human moment, he ignores her blood pooling all around and tries to save her.  Then cradles her, crying, for quite a long while.  This from a man that supposedly has little regard for life, having killed phonebooks of people.  I think in that scene sympathy for all of them - Natasha for having been mindlessly driven to cut her own throat, Hal for his clear remorse and confusion, and most especially Tom, the heartbreak of him about to find her dead - overrode the horror of the moment for me.

Thinking about this again, I still would vote for Hal killing Cutler's wife.  There are parallels with Alex's death, sure, but knowing that Hal was directly responsible for Rachael's death, the manner in which she was sprawled out, and Hal's chilling words to Cutler after put it over the top for me.  1950's Hal is the only incarnation of him I would be afraid to encounter.  Even 1865 Hal seems less cruel. More savage, sure, but more likely to just give into his urges and end it quickly.  In 1950's he seems more pre-meditated, revenge/teach-you-a-lesson cold.  Completely calculating and sadistic.  I'd be very afraid if he got his hands on me then.

Exactly what i meant Whimseyfox... Thank you... Guess gotta feel for Hal at he's most vulnerable, even though Bad Hal has done terrible things...

I've just had a looksee at what my top moment in my top ten was....and it was Hal 'collecting' blood from guy in denim shirt - which has no votes at all this time around!  I understand why I chose it. I find it pretty difficult to watch - and it's totally cruel and heartless....as cruel as 1950's Hal.  The difference is that he has an....exhilaration about him whereas - I agree - 1950's Hal seems very cold.

But that moment when Natasha cut her own throat..... It was such a shock!  Such an awful thing for her to do to herself and not of her own will. And then the realisation of all of the implications of that act......

Hmmm...I wonder if there is anything in the fact that I've chosen one of the few 'horror' moments that Hal is not responsible for....

Ok this maybe be 3 year late, but I wasn't here three years ago. So here goes..

Out of the list I would say the moment with Baby Eve for me.
When I first started watching the show I made the decision not to spoil it by checking out what happened during series 4 and 5. So I no idea if Hal was a good or bad guy. For all I knew he might have been that seasons big bad. So when he held the baby and looked like he was going to tear into her, I had no idea if he was or not. I was relieved when Tom arrived.

It was the same in the next episode, that scene in Honolulu Height with Fergus and his gang. Was Hal going to join Fergus and hurt his new found friends. You can imagine how I sighed with relief when he staked Fergus.

The dream killing of Tom. I think I guessed it was a dream when he staked Tom really easily. We found out in the last episode of season 5 that a Hal and Tom fight is not so straight forward.

Finally the Natasha forced suicide, that was horrific because I saw the consequence of the act. That Tom and Alex would believe that he had attacked and killed Natasha. Seeing that the two people he loved and trusted thought him capable of such an act, possibly made the good Hal give up and allow the bad Hal to take over.

For me it was definitely Hal reaching into the dog - I found that chilling.
I'm not that bothered by gore, and Hal killing Tom was so obviously unreal (perfectly clean stake). Psychological horror, however, really gets to me. That and the sheer drama of the moment. Even without looking at the poll, that is one of the moments that has always stood out for me. After that it's Hal stepping forward to join the rest of the Old Ones, then where Annie turns round to see the giant poster of Hal.

I'm hoping that dog is a misprint of cot, because I can't remember a dog.  Unless there is a episode that I missed.

With the Tom (dream) staking there was also way too much blood right away.

Hal joining the old ones, it showed how Mr Snow had more of an hypnotic hold over Hal, when Annie arrive screaming "Give me back my fucking baby" it seemed to break Hal's connection to Mr Snow

Future Hal, the poster that wasn't a big surpise to me..infact it might have been more of a surprise to find he was leading the resistance.

oh, I missed that too .. confuse
For me it was actually the scene when Natasha kills herself. That was so unexpected and really bad. And of course you immediately knew that everyone think Hal did it. And although I had always hoped that the good Hal wins, I knew in that moment he would lose
