Ok...so now I've had a chance to rewatch....

My, my isn't Damien looking good.... biggrin  I'm very much enjoying the screencaps.

I have to agree with Becca that the characters are pretty much all annoying (especially Lulu! (sorry))....and really not very nice!  But I don't think that's really a problem in a comedy.  2nd time around I definitly saw a bit more depth to them....so we'll have to see how they develop.

I know that Lulu is kind of the 'main' character, but I do think it would've worked better if the other characters had been introduced first and she'd arrived in ep 2.  Despite that and  the fact that I still feel it was all a bit rushed, I did like the sense of chaos that was established by this ep.... I wonder if it'll calm down much.

I don't think you could call it sophisticated humour....but hey! - I still laughed!

Interesting conversations about the Kate/Anthony/Lulu triangle.  I agree that any resolution would have to spell the end of the programme - and hopefully it's got a few series in it.  Although...tbh all of my sympathies lie with Kate - and I think Anthony and Lulu probably deserve each other.... Just sayin' wink  The 'relationship' that I enjoyed most in ep1 was actually Sam and Fred!

Sam and Fred's developing relationship was actually rather sweet.

Ah good, some points of views similar to some of my thoughts. I thoroughly enjoyed it, as I said previously, but I completely agree that establishing the group without Lulu there at the beginning would have been a good way to go.  She is the main character, but seeing the rest of the group as they'd established themselves before her upheaval would have been nice.  And I felt they were much too quick to have the "I've loved you since we were little." confessions.  An hour, or few at most, after they hadn't seen each other in how long???  It's just hard to believe it would have all happened so quickly.  And Kate insisting Lulu stay, despite the obvious awkwardness? I can only think it was because she was drunk.

But, as fifi pointed out, with a comedy it's a bit more forgiving if they exaggerate things a bit.  The annoyingness of most of the characters I could handle and in fact embrace, such as with Sam. Did I mention he's my favorite.  Second to Anthony to be sure...  But the reason I didn't mind the over-the-top stereotypes is that we definitely got glimpses into their hidden depths (even if it really took more than one viewing to absorb through the rush). I am hoping things settle down a bit so it's less madhouse party central and more interesting drama about quirky characters navigating through everyday life issues we've all experienced and/or can relate to.  Not much to ask for, is it?

Enjoying the relationship tension, but I believe I mentioned I am not a Lulu fan.  And in fact, after reading the character bios, I'm totally rooting for Kate.  Sounds like Anthony would be a bit of a lost puppy without the more grounded adult, and I think Lulu and him are a train wreck waiting to happen.  Sure it would be good for a while, they are probably soul mates, but either I can see the novelty wearing off for Lulu (doesn't sound like she's much into monogamy) or they'd stay together fumbling through life until the real pressures in being a grown up get to be too much without a stronger partner and it ends in disappointment.  But things "have a way of working out" for Lulu, so I'm sure it's headed towards them together. I just hope it takes a long while to get there.  For dramatic purposes.

Yup, if there's anyone I ship, it's Sam and Fred.  And I don't usually ship male/male. But they so are totally meant for each other!

On the face of it, Sam is an arrogant idiot trying to be too macho but there was glimpses in his interation with Fred that it's all for show and he really is troubled at heart.

Fred said to him "You're not very happy are you?" and Sam didn't disagree.

EDit: Domino, I've just seen your signature! ahhahah. If rumour from three years ago is true, Jenna and Damo would have been lovers in Doctor Who. Something for everyone, eh?

I've watched it a few times (In a row!) and let it sit in my head and simmer. The episode tried to cram twice as much content into the time frame as it needed and I had to step back for a bit to really get a sense of it.

I needed to see Kate in Anthony's arms to really get a sense that they fit well together. Up until then I wasn't sure, but his easy acceptance of her and comfort with her there sold the relationship for me. As of right now Lulu is an interloper and needs to back the heck off. I understand sexual chemistry, but I've seen it wreck relationships for the sake of what amounted to a good few weeks or months or whatever. So no, this old girl isn't going for that ship. No Anthony/Lulu for me!

Anthony is the perfect rumpled, casual, gorgeous guy who I could watch all day (and all night) and probably never tire of. His less than decisive personality would wear thin very quickly, though. And a pigeon? Seriously? Come on, dude, grow a pair!

Sam--awful, exuberant, rude, chronically horny, vulnerable Sam--has captured my heart. So has dear Fred.

I just want Colin to have a happy ending. I want to know what, if anything, makes Melody happy.

I want to meet more of the property guardians and see more of the ones I've met. So yes, I'm definitely going to keep watching!

The scene where Sam gave himself a pep talk in the mirror was very revealing - like all the other characters what is truly going on inside is hidden from the outside. Loved that scene.

whimsy, Sam and Fred are my only sure ship too.

TJ so lovely to read you again and what a fab review (as always!)

Mikey The DaMo / Jenna Coleman pairing was one we all hankered after a couple of years ago!

We watched the first episode tonight and we both enjoyed it.  It feel like it was trying to cram too much in half an hour and force the characters on you.  It was a bit over the top with the vulgar and absurd humor for my taste, but I have a feeling it will calm down a bit in subsequent episodes.

That sounds like a  critical review but really for the most part we enjoyed it. It's good to see Damien deliver comedic lines regularly again. He's so good at comedy.

I liked all of the characters except for Lulu.  I found her annoying.  I'm siding with Kate, but I see the necessity of the Lulu character to create drama.

So far I only ship Sam and Fred.

Radio Times already gave a brilliant full review (read it here), but here's another mini review in the tv listings

"This is warm, stylish and full of energy" - check

"and most of the jokes hit home." - can't think of any that don't

"It’s important, too, that there is depth to these quirky, often reckless people." - Yes!

This episode is being repeated at 1.35 am on 4Seven tonight/tomorrow!

Question from Sana on Crashing episode 1 (moved from this topic)

Sana wrote:

But, one thing I must know and I need your help... I so want to know what Anthony Lulu says before she hits him with the ukulele. I didn't understand that..confuse

This is a great question Sana! I've watched the scene several times and still cannot catch what Lulu says just before the Ukulele spanking...hopefully others may have a keener ear! But, I do have this gif of the whole fabulous moment, which perhaps is some consolation

Could it be the bit where he says "I can't believe you fell for that hook, line and sinker"?

Maybe what Maghat wrote? I understand it so: that he told her something  ( but what ?) and after that he teases her that she believed him?

Love the gifaw

Hi Sana, yes Anthony definitely says "you fell for that.." to Lulu. He had appeared to tell her off for flirting with him and for doing that in front of Kate, but then said he was pretending. What Lulu says to Anthony the moment right before the ukulele spanking (not a phrase you hear every day!)I cannot make out! Anyone else? cool

She says that Kate might as well have weed on him (like a dog marking its territory) and he replies that Kate would be within her rights to be paranoid after the way Lulu behaved. He says that the two of them know there's nothing between them but Kate can't be sure of that. There are a few swear words in there that might make it more difficult to understand along with the speed of it! Does any of that help with what you're not sure about him telling her?

I can't catch what Lulu says either, Domino - it sounds a bit like "you might have lied" but she's laughing as well which kind of obscures the words!

Things between Anthony and Lulu are very intense and layered at the beginning Sana! The tension makes it addictive viewing. Keep watching, it becomes clearer!
