Exciting news!

Damien will join a fantastic cast for an upcoming WordTheatre event:

Hearts Aflame: An Evening of Love and Hate Letters from 12th Century Missives to 21st Century Emails

25 October, 9.15pm, as part of Live At Zédel in London.

"A remarkable cast, featuring Bellamy Young (Scandal, A Wrinkle in Time), Damien Molony (Being Human, Ripper Street), Jing Lusi (Crazy Rich Asians, Holby City), Joseph Marcell (Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Cry Freedom) and Rhashan Stone (Carters Get Rich, Strike Back), bring to life passionate, sweet, uproarious, scathing and devastating communiques that will leave you weeping with laughter and despair at the follies of the human heart."

Tickets are on sale now, £25 plus £2 booking fee.

There is only one performance and it may well sell out quickly, so don't miss out!

This sounds brilliant! I'm a big fan of letter writing and believe it's truly a lost art!

Yes, I'd love to see this one not only for the performances, but for the implicit debate around the advent of technology and the loss of letter writing, not only as an art, but culturally. It is not a clear cut debate for me - emailing and the development of instant, worldwide tech is nothing short of miraculous, and emails can be just as beautiful and personal. But they tend not to be, and involve far less effort than the process of hand writing and sending a letter - especially in the high middle ages - and are kind of symptomatic of our increasingly speedy needy now culture.
Perhaps this WordTheatre event will find examples where this is not the case!

I can't imagine people publishing collections of emails and what's apps from famous people like they've done with letters. I think it's a shame that people won't have their love letters as a reminder of their relationships! But I am a hopeless romantic!

But I do agree that emails and other technology have helped people be in touch so much quicker and easier and that has positives and negatives.

It would be interesting to hear the emails chosen to be read and how they differ from traditional letters. And Damien's readings are always awesome!

Interesting, shame it's London!
I think there's a huge difference between letters and emails - at least for me. I still have letters from my mam, yet emails I tend to delete once they've been read. There's just no heart to them. The thought and the personal aspect of letter writing, the news, the emotion, is missing from emails - they remind me more of memos.
When I think of letters sent in the past - recounting of everyday things, plus special events - my daughter's first footsteps or words, told to my mam who was living in a different country. There's something about putting pen to paper that just doesn't seem to happen in an email. I wonder if it's the personal aspect that just doesn't seem to kick in?
I agree, it would be an interesting experience.

Rosie I am eager to discover their selection as well, and hope they find emails that do challenge our assumption that they are not as personal or artful.

Ellie I do agree, there is more effort involved in a letter too. Not just that, but a handwritten letter- you can type a letter but that feels less personal as well.

Perhaps.......is this is more to do with the handwritten aspect, than the medium? Handwriting is as individual as finger prints, it flows from the person's mind and heart down their arm into the paper. There is an energy to it. You can feel more from it. I want to be proved wrong.

This event sounds just amazing though, letters or emails.

"passionate, sweet, uproarious, scathing and devastating communiques that will leave you weeping with laughter and despair at the follies of the human heart"

I am completely sold and wish I could go to this!

Sadly, Damien is no longer listed as a performer in this event, both on the Brasserie at Zedel website, and the official WordTheatre website.

It seems safe to assume that he's unable to take part and won't be appearing.

I've contacted the site to ask for confirmation of this and will update as soon as they respond.

Such a shame Damien won't be performing at this now. Hopefully he'll get more opportunities to do readings as I'd love to see him performing in this way.

WordTheatre told me Damien is "trapped on a TV set out of town" - obviously filming Brassic - but that "He’ll be back at the next one if he isn’t Filming".

That's a shame, he's so good in stage, but he's obviously still on good terms with WordTheatre so hope he makes the next one. Just good to know he's so busy 😀

Yes! our fave actor is in demand! approved

WordTheatre seemed a little sad he couldn't be there too and I'm sure he'll be back performing with them.

Why he cannot clone himself to be in two places at once I don't know!

I was so gutted that I wasn't going to be able to make this!

It's a real shame that he couldn't do it....he's brilliant at these WordTheatre events, and it sounded like such a good topic.  I'm sure it would have been fantastic, even without Damien......but I must admit that I'm rather relieved that I couldn't go now. cool
