Episode Guide

Vinnie’s having the day from hell. First the task of stealing a car to order for his mate JJ descends into a high-speed cross country car chase with the police. Then things go from bad to worse when Vinnie and his lads; Tommo, Cardi, Dylan and Ash, are forced into stealing a Shetland Pony for Jim, the xenophobic farmer who wants to outshine his foreign neighbour at this year’s county fair and horse show. After a short mishap involving Cardi’s pet pigeon Nigel and a jar of chloroform, it looks like the gang finally manage to pull off their tiny horse heist. But, the dubious act does not go unnoticed by Terence McCann, the local criminal heavy-weight.

I'm very intrigued by Brassic being likened to a younger, grittier Last of the Summer Wine!

Haha! It's a great description! While it couldn't be further removed from Sunday night family viewing, there is definitely a touch of that vibe to Brassic!

Has anyone watched any Brassic yet?

In case you missed it..

episode 1 is available to watch free online here!

Come and share your thoughts and vote in the poll above! action

I've now seen this episode and the next!

It's just brilliant! It feels very new and different from anything else, but in an easy to watch way. All the descriptions of it being lockstocky are totally right, but it's also got more warmth, the central characters and the whole gang are really easy to like!

It's thrilling to meet Damien's new character, a whole new journey of discovery! Dylan is an angsty character too, and we all know Damien excels at angsty.

His accent is amazing, completely different to anything he has done before, it's like Dylan has a whole different voice, absolutely seamless!

So! Everyone! What did you think?

cool

It's so great to see Damien in a new role as a completely different character, what a contrast to GameFace!

Joe Gilgun is incredible, not only is Brassic his creation, but as Vinnie he is the heart of the show, naturally, he brings the humour  - SO FUNNY! But also the pathos.. there is something deeply affecting about his portrayal and his character carries the weight of his condition and there's an internal pain that underpins everything. It is understated and powerful. It's such an excellent performance.

The press is full of the Erin and Dylan sex scene! I mean, it was there, but only very briefly and what about the rest of the episode!!!

Dylan looked like he was going to bust a blood vessel in this scene, he was so angry with Vinnie.. but this moment said it all about Dylan and their relationship I think, Dylan blames Vinnie but Vinnie calls him on it, he is there because he wants to be. But he is conflicted because of Erin and Tyler.

"I was at work, my day was planned and then as usual you appear and you derail everything"

"Detail every... do you know what’s that you’ve got up there, huh? you’ve got a mind of your own. I’ll tell you why you’re here Dylan, you’re here because you bloody well want to be. So if you’re looking for someone to blame you can piss off and blame your self."

Brassic1ep1-12.jpg

Couldn't help wondering if it was Damien shuffling those cards in the poker scene!

This show is a lot of fun. I have to admit that I wasn't really all that excited about it based on write-ups but it does deliver.  It's genuinely funny. Though I thought the horse wrangling scene was a little over the top.

We've watched the first two episodes so far and my husband is enjoying it as well.  He says  it reminds him of Trainspotting.  I'll take his word for it.  I have seen Trainspotting but honestly can't remember much about it other than I found it depressing.  This show doesn't depress me...it causes a bit of anxiety though when Dylan does stupid things like leaving the house when he's supposed to be watching Tyler.

Hi RJ It really is funny! The Shetland pony scene had me in stitches but I'm sure for the wrong reasons.. Dylan's reaction to being shot at!

I can totally see Trainspotting and Lockstock similarities, the lads, the caper, it has that sort of vibe to it, but it's warmer and takes itself a bit less seriously (?)

Yeah, Dylan what are you like! He tried, and tried to resist.. when he's pleading to other to not get involved it is like he's pleading with his inner beast, lol!

That's exactly my humor. I love it and can not wait to keep watching. I have laughed a lot of times a lot but on the other hand it is somehow sad that no one manages to get ahead and somehow get stuck. The sessions with the doctor are really funny, but I was already annoyed that he did not listen. That's so important for Vinnie ..

Oh squee.. you are watching Brassic Sana, so exciting!
Good to read your thoughts, it is really hilarious isn't it and at the same time, it's dark humour and there are some moving themes.

Yes, I feel that for Erin and Dylan about being stuck, but the other characters, to me anyway, are not at all victims, there is something joyous in the way they get through life and what they do and have no intention of moving on or changing their ways.

The Dominic West and Joe G scenes are amazing aren't they? For me they highlight everything that is so good about Brassic, the dark comedy at its best - both truly laugh out loud but also heartbreaking, as you say Vinnie could so with someone actually listening to him, like properly truly listening, you get the impression there are no spaces he can actually really do that, even with Dylan and Erin. Across the series you will see there are moments though...
