Just 2 days until the finale of Brassic Series 1!

This is one hell of a finale, more revelations and lots at stake for all the main characters, Vinnie and Erin and woah... so much for Dylan!

It was good to see Damien in centre stage and not just 'one of the lads' . Excellent acting from all.I

I was watching with my daughter and we looked at each other and said "Nooooo!!! I want to know what happens next!!!"

I did get the feeling that if things hadn't been mucked up between Vinnie and Dylan there was a chance there wouldn't have been a pretend funeral - or if there was Vinnie would have gone far, far away!
But for me the main thing I want to find out about is what happens between Dylan and Erin.
Eithne and I started out having lots of sympathy for Erin, but by the end it had waned somewhat. So many lies!

It's great to read your thoughts on this episode Ellie.

Brassic definitely became the dramedy rather than the comedy for this instalment, it really was a dramatic, heart wrenching, powerful episode! Things came to a tense and moving crescendo for all 3 of the main characters, Vinnie, Dylan and Erin. It was funny too in places, but my overriding emotion was sympathy for all of them.

There were lots of tears too for me, especially during Dylan's scenes. My God, the emotion Damien brought to that scene at College when he confronted Erin and when he went outside on his own afterwards... it was hard seeing Dylan like that even though i know it is Damien acting, it felt so real watching it, truly gut wrenching performance. So authentic.. the way the camera panned with him as he is walking and the way he turned away. Just incredible. When Dylan got so angry and so upset... right across the episode... that intensity in Damien's performance just took my breath away and it felt really visceral to watch.

It was also difficult watching Vinnie almost face the chop, we can't not mention that.. in those scenes there was that incredible mix of comedy and thriller together at the same time, really great edge of the seat stuff.

The confrontation of Dylan and Vinnie as well... wow.

I really felt for Dylan, not only for the revelations but also the way Vinnie kind of tells him how it is. He might be right... when he said why didn't Erin tell Dylan... and about Dylan hanging around with his mates instead of being with Erin. But it isn't that clear cut... and that's not fully hoe things are for Dylan with Vinnie's illness, although Vinnie appears to release him from that responsibility in this episode.

I love how everything is so layered and not clear cut. Dylan is perhaps also the most conflicted character and as we said right at the start, Damien does conflicted and angsty so well.

It's funny, across the series I have wanted Dylan to kind of get it together and give Erin what she wants, maybe give up his gambling, the escapades with the lads and letting her down. I also wanted Damien to be more central and less of an ensemble. BUT when he was central in this episode, he was also separate from the gang in many scenes and I found myself yearning for him to be part of it again! So I am not sure what I want now! HAHA!

Not sure where things can go from here for the Dylan, Erin, Vinnie triangle - from all of their perspectives! I mean, CLIFFHANGERS GALORE! But can't wait to find out.

I'd kind of like it actually if there was a role reversal, Erin goes off the rails, she joins the gang, or there is a girl gang(yes!) and Dylan tries to go completely straight.. that could be interesting!

So despite binging it about 5 times already, I watched the series finale last night on Sky One as it aired - has to be done!

When Brassic was first announced I couldn't wait to see Damien and Joe Gilgun on screen together, but it has been more than I could ever have hoped for. Of all the relationships in this series, theirs is the most layered and complex and vibey.. and both of them together  are magnetic viewing, the on screen chemistry.. they are both incredible actors and absolutely raised the bar even higher in this last episode.

brassic1ep6-7.jpg

It really is an incredibly crafted episode, extreme highs and extreme lows, the scene with Vinnie and Terence McCann and the shears.. it was hard to watch, Vinnie all bloody and terrified and crying but at the same time it was funny - how can this be?! The whole thread of Vinnie faking his death and the funeral had a really dark tinge to it, because of what we know about his mental health and that scene with Michael McCann, where he talks about sometimes ending it but when facing it being really scared... heart ripping stuff

And Dylan... oh boy... I said it yesterday but those scenes between him and Erin and him and Vinnie...

Erin said it in the first episode "there's 3 of us in this relationship", and by the end of the series those words take on even more meaning don't they?

And then when Vinnie and Dylan make up, kinda, love that we have to wait until the last episode to see the Dylan wink we first saw in the trailer, and that we find out, in context, that Vinnie winks at him first!

and Dylan goes outside to see Erin being proposed to by Jake! (WHAT ARE YOU DOING MAN!) Oh Dylan!!!

Oh the soundtrack! AWESOME throughout the series but in this episode, next level!

2 tracks in particular, which happen to be in my fave tracks of all time list!

Especially London Grammar's cover of Bitter Sweet symphony, as Dylan is walking out from the college after confronting Erin, his pain (oh my...) and the camera panning and as he turns away.... I'M STILL SOBBING

Plus, the very final moments of the very final scene, when Vinine received the phonecall, the camera does a couple of 360s, with the crescendo from The Beatles 'A Day In A Life' ! (Particularly cool and appropriate not least because of the 'Blackburn Lancashire' lyrics!) What an ending!

This final episode broke my heart, poor Dylan finding out all that stuff in 1 go!!! I want him to find happiness in series 2 and less of the suffering!!! It would be good to see more of him as Tyler's Dad, they didn't show enough of that to make you understand how much of a Father to him he is and had been. If that makes sense. Erin can't go off with that college guy because he's like her secret stalker!!

Yeah it was an emotionally intense episode for sure, for Dylan and for Erin and Vinnie. What an incredible finale to a series though.

You really feel for Dylan with the double whammy discoveries across episodes 5 and 6, when he Erin and Tyler are together they seem so happy, I hope they find a way through it all. It was an awful lot for Vinnie to, who as we know is struggling all the time with his bipolar, finding out he is a Dad and obviously having feelings for Erin (that scene when he says he could make her happy ).

As you say there are not that many moments with Dylan and Tyler, perhaps this is deliberate? The scenes where theya re together are super cute though! I've not thought of that until you mentioned it HalGal!
It's interesting how, to me anyway, Brassic doesn't seem to make comment on how things 'should' be. There is obviously history of Dylan being a dad to Tyler and their whole family unit with Erin. But the scenes with Vinnie and Tyler are also really touching too.

Where I feel for Dylan is not just his relationship with Erin and Tyler, but also with Vinnie. Those scenes almost broke my heart even more. He is so torn and there is a lot of pain there. But just when they seemed to have a break through..

Your secret stalker comment made me lol! Jake does seem to turn up all the time! I don't think Erin would go of with Jake just for the sake of a "better life" that she had a glimpse of at a wedding - what was that about anyway.. class? money? and would it be any way? I want to see Erin succeed on her own terms! Not sure where I wrote this on the forum, but in the next series I think Dylan should try to go straight and be a stay at home Dad and Erin should become the crime boss of them all! She's got the biggest business brains and balls of them all!
