What are your TOP DAMO MOMENTS OF 2012?!

For most of us 2012 was the year we discovered the acting talent Mr Damien Molony, in his role as the 'new vampire' Hal in Being Human fangs. But the year has also been crammed full with other DaMo goodness!

halyes

We have been witness to a multitude of gifted perfomances by Damien as Hal, some fans were lucky enough to see Damien perform in National Theatre play Travelling Light theatre some with amazing stage door stories curtains to tell.

Other fans had the opportunity to watch Damien filming Being Human series 5 action in Wales and spoke to him on location, some received replies to fan letters , some had replies or RTs on Twitter...and one very lucky fan got to speak to him on the phone!

Whether it is a memorable on screen Hal moment, or watching him in theatre, or a personal memory of meeting Damien, or something else...

The 'I'm not a man of God' speech from '1955'

Going to see a performance of 'Travelling Light' at Newcastle Theatre Royal and meeting him afterwards. I had been in two minds about going to the stage door right up until the performance ended. Two or three BH bloggers who'd seen the show in Manchester/Leeds way had told him i was going to one of the Newcastle performances and to look out for me. If it hadn't been for their constant encouragement on the blog and also via Twitter (and i know two or three of them as well as my sister, tweeted him for good measure that i was going and that i was going to come and say hello even though i hadn't fully decided whether i was going to or not) but i'm glad that i did. My heart was knocking in my chest and when he finally did appear (and he turned to go in the opposite direction til i called out his name) he couldn't have been more gracious and sweet. He also wished me a happy birthday too. Yes i was a puddle on the floor by that point.

Another top DaMo moment was when Su arranged for you to speak to him on the phone even though you knew nothing about it. I think that is by itself the kindest thing one fan has done for another.

Hi Lisa, your post has given me the warm fuzzies, i don't think you have shared in that much detail here before about Newcastle, what a lovely experience, no wonder you were all melty, I hear the potency of the Molony effect in person is mighty!

two out of your three top DaMo moments happen to be on my list too But I am having a little think about what else is......there have been so many amazing moments for fans this past year and I have been fortunate enough to hear so many stories and vicariously enjoyed them all!

But...I think my number one top DaMo moment has to be meeting all of you.....because of Damien, this forum was created out of nothing it was born...and via this forum, meeting other fans and making friends all over the world. And you are all the most giving, funny, creative, bright, beautiful people! grouphug

My highlights are humble in comparison to all this Epicness, but they leave me no less excited.

Meeting Hal for the first time.  I hadn't given BH much thought after S3, knowing that Mitchell was gone, so when I decided to watch S4 the first hour I didn't really think much of it.  But then my jaw dropped when Hal gave the "I'm not a Man of God" speech.  I thought "who IS this guy?!" then immediately paused and googled.   E3 cinched it with Hal's funny side and the goofy banter between Hal and Tom.  I'm a sucker for adorkable Hal.

Seeing Damien's epic performance throughout S4.  The many facets of Hal.  He's managed to capture all the coiled up tension, the panic and fear, the uncertainty, the grief, the pent up and tampered down rage and violence that is Hal with his every movement.  He's shown us a complex, scarred, flawed, volatile yet surprisingly gentle character perfectly. I thank him so much for such a treat!

Finding, joining and being welcome into the Fandom, the bbcbeinghuman blog and the DM Forum.  You all are such fun and warm fans and I feel lucky to have found you.  I hope this is the beginning of some wonderful friendships.

Joining Twitter and being a part of the Twitterfest last week with promo pics and new blog post and DaMo tweets.  I'm positively giddy I was able to contribute to that in a small way with the SciFiNow pics.

One Word: FANFICTION.  OMG, I am so hooked.  This fandom has some very wonderful talent here.  I'm making my rounds through the wonderful fanfic out there and I've left some reviews, but I can't stress enough how much I love you gals for your wonderful stories. @katynewt @rubyrosettared @saemay @shoepigeon @0positiv I'm eager to read more from you gals and to keep discovering others.

Reading about everyone else's wonderful DaMo memories and hearing about the fan encounters.  Please continue to share as much as you can!  Of course I'm a little bit jealous, but at least I can live vicariously through you.  And I can hold the hope that someday in the future I can meet some of you lovelies and have a fan encounter too.  5371 miles (8645 km) isn't too far away! LOL

Wow ruby! What a great story, so glad youve shared biggrin

Domino that is absolutely right, that has gotta be my top moment too.....i have had loads of damo moments this year so here are my top 8 lol....

8. The field trips! Meeting up with and standing with fellow damiacs and halcaholics in the rain for hours on end just to get a glimpse of damien and of filming! confuse haha x

7. Getting autographs from the man himself! Ive never had an autograph from anyone before and so obviously both the messages i have from him are framed and on my bedroom wall! wink

6. This one is gonna sound a bit weird to prevent spoilers......but seeing damien on location one day as he walked out from doing a rather strenuous scene....he had a little sweat on....he looked like something out of an action movie....it was HOT!

5. All the times ive had the priviladge of seeing damien act up close! Although the scenes i have seen filmed have been brief, its been cool to see damien in character as Hal!

4. Going to the theatre for the first time in my life and loving it! Meeting damien at the stage door for the first time ever was amazing even though, like ruby, i completely lost the ability to speak!

3. Getting damien to speak to domino on the phone biggrin It was a magical moment, which made me cry (in front of damien) oops lol! And something i will never ever forget

2. The first day i met damien at filming in barry lust That day was just absoutely amazing! I saw some amazing filming and got to spend nearly 9 hours in damiens presense!

1. Joining the fandom! Ive met so many amazing people here and have made some life long friends! That has gotta be the top moment smile

There have been so many top Damo moments this year and for me many have been getting to hear everyone else's interactions with Damien & the impact that #theMolonyEffect (should have trademarked that, I'd be rich!) has had on you all.

Trying to be more precise however:

1. Episode 2 & the now famous 'Not a man of god' speech. Like most of you this was the moment for me when I first thought, yes you're good, in fact you're very good!

2. Meeting Damien at the stage door in Leeds. Like Ruby this was the first time I'd ever been to a stage door & to say I was apprehensive about doing so is an understatement. I was predictably a babbling wreck and he seemed quite nervous too (we were only up to ep 7, so I guess having fans was still new to him) which didn't help the whole melting into a puddle situation!

3. The second stage door meeting in London with 10 other bloggers/forumers in May. It was brilliant to meet up with so many other lovely fans, the entire day was filled with laughter. Damien was a lot bolder & cheekier at the stage door that day, asking why I'd only brought him a dozen & not a thousand tulips & questioning if I would chase him if tried to run away! (I so would!).

4. The #BHFieldTrips - getting a chance to see some of the iconic locations from series 4 and having the pleasure of actually seeing some of series 5 being filmed was epic. The company whilst there though really made these trips. Being Human fans are some of the nicest people I've met. Other highlights of these trips include being IN IT (twice), almost being run over by Damien & after spending a day in the freezing cold & rain watching filming being shouted at across the street by Damien to tell us that we were mental!

5. My birthday tweet! - Thanks to many of you (namely Su) on twitter for making him aware of the fact it was my birthday I received a slightly sarcastic if very sweet Happy Birthday tweet from Damien on my birthday. It definitely eased the dental pain that day.

6.Last but not least has to be chatting to you lovely ladies here on the forum. This is top fandom that I am definitely proud to be a part of

Lovely to read everyone's top Damo moments. Su & Becca, I don't think I can top yours, but I'll give it a go.

1 - 4 The 4 times I met Damien. All were special for different reasons.
May 22nd - The first time I met him with the Bloggers/Forumers that May afternoon. The whole day was brill. Meeting people I'd been talking to on Twitter, the Blog and the Forum. I was nervous that day, but having other people (well, women to be precise) who were also nervous & excited made it so much easier. I don't think I would have done it if I was by myself.

May 29th. This was a week-day evening show, so sadly, could not spend as much time with bloggers/forumers and Damien as the week before, but just as magical. Damien seemed more relaxed with us too. He said there was a after-show party and he could not stay long - and his phone kept on ringing, but nevertheless, he stayed for a good half an hour with us.

The 2 times I saw him in Cardiff. The first time, it was raining so hard and we were warned that he could not stay long as he was in costume, but he still found time to come and say hello and he actually remembered who I was, which, to be honest, I wasn't expecting, so that was so terrific and he even gave us a clue about where he would be the next day, so we saw him again. I've never been to Cardiff or seen a show being filmed before. The filming was indoors, but I was able to looking inside a window and see some filming, and standing outside with the other #BH Field Trippers and going out in the evening was so much fun. The film crew and security were lovely, as were the other cast members. I was so suprised when Kate and Michael spoke to me, because I had not been to any filming before, but they were lovely, as were Phil Davies and Mr Rook. The #MolonyEffect was so strong that I even turned down a trip to Morrocco to go on the BH Field Trip, but I ended up having had a much better time.

5. First time I really noticed Damien was Hal's "Man Of God" speech on Being Human. It really got under my skin, and the next week I spent more time on the blog and googled him. I wanted to go and see Travelling Light asap and made arrangements with someone on the BH Facebook page to meet up. The next week when I saw that scene with Kirby where he cried, I couldn't wait, I booked a ticket for the next night. I've never been to the Theatre alone, but I'd a good seat at the front and saw that there were a few other women sitting alone and we had a chat during the interval.  (I never heard from that woman on Facebook, but it's nice to know that now, if I have an impulse to see Damien at the theatre again, I probably won't be seeing him alone again)

6. Meeting the fandom here and on Twitter. It's certainly made my Molony experiences a lot more lively.

In no particular order, here are my top DaMo moments of 2012!

Meeting Hal

2012 was the year of the Hal >> http://damienmolony.org/2012/12/30/2012-the-year-of-the-hal-happy-new-year/

Meeting fans and the birth of the Damien Molony Fandom

The forum was born on 21st March 2012 and we now have 134 registered members,  407 topics and 11,485 posts. The fansite has 481 followers, our twitter page has 415, Facebook 80.

I have been overwhelmed by the support and friendliness of the fans I have met and the incredible dedication, creativity, humour, generosity, cleverness of you all! THANK YOU!

Meeting Damien Molony. On. The. Phone!

8 September of this year was a very special day..it was the day I met Damien n the phone! All thanks to the lovely Su. I am sure you have all read about it until you are bored to tears.. so I won’t repeat! but for those who have not read about that day, please feel free to do so here

Damien Signing my pics and T-shirt

A few of my favourite DaMo moments this year were brought about with the help of our lovely Laura who during her Travelling Light stage door adventures kindly asked Damien to sign the photos for our forum competition (more on that below) and my ‘I had a shield T-shirt which has come to inspire me so much this year.. and gave him my gift of the http://damienmolony.activeboard.com/t49374507/not-just-any-old-t-shirt-damienand-his-domino/">domino T-shirt!

Creative Competition

Earlier in the year we ran a creative competition to win a uniquely signed photo by Damien – the standard of entry in both the visual and written categories was outstanding and it felt such an honour to be on the receiving end of them all! All the entries can be seen here and here!

Tweets from Damien to the Forum

The forum has been tweeted 3 times by Damien this year, which was very generous of him and a real treat for every member here!

My Damo moment was of course seeing him for the first time in BH. As I said before, I did not like him at all at first. But then, how on earth could I resist his pink lips, his lovely voice, his puppy eyes, his defined muscles? All in all, his Damoness!!!!!!

Of course, getting to know all you, fellow fans who share the appreciation that I have for him and his work is also a top Damo moment.

I have not seen him live...yet... I know he will come to a U.S. stage and I finally will get my chance to see him in the Big Apple. Maybe some of you will follow him here ; )

Ladies, thank you for sharing your pics and stories. I look forward for more.

BTW, I was planning a trip to Ireland a few months ago, but it fell through. I knew nothing of him at that time. Maybe I should look into that again.

We will keep talking next year... Have a good one.

I can't believe I haven't posted here yet (I appear to be in slug mode this season). The highlight has been finding this board, of course. It's the first internet community I've really been a part of since my first, for the West Wing. It's lovely hanging out with you all.

Moments involving Damien himself, well, there's the show, obviously, and being happy with the new crew, and pleasantly surprised that I had a new TV Boyfriend out of the bargain too. And then finding myself grabbing a ticket for the final performance of Traveling Light. Talk about in the nick of time. Thanks to Damo I got back into the habit of going to the theatre. Gosh, how I missed it. So thank you, Damo.

This time last year I was desperately hoping that s4 of being human would be ok.  I simply thought it was the best thing on TV and really wanted it to work dispite the cast changes.  As with everyone else, the ep 2 'man of god' bit totally convinced me that, not only was hal a fantastic character, but Damian was going to be brilliant.  (although my total hal moment happened at the end of that ep, with the 'I'd forgotton how all the others did that too.  They all called for their gods......')

I've wasted hours surfing the net, but had never even considered participating.  Somehow I kept finding myself on the fansite, and here and I actually found myself wanting to join in.  I even started thinking of opening a twitter account!  It took a long time, but eventually I joined the forum, opened a twitter account, and started posting on the being human blog.

So my top Damo moments of 2012 are:

ep 2 - all of it - for being the moment when I discovered who he was and for making me enjoy being human more than I already did.

and leading me here, to join in with you.  I never would've believed it, and I'm so enjoying it!  Thank you.

I'd just like to add another.....with thanks to Becca, and Su.  I shamefully used Becca's birthday as an excuse to tweet Damien, and was absolutely thrilled when he responded!!
