CLEAN BREAK | Damien Molony & cast at RTÉ New Season launch
Permalink

Damien was on the drama panel at the RTÉ new season launch today, alongside 'Clean Break' co-stars Kelly Thornton and Amybeth McNulty, as well as Brian Gleeson who will be appearing in another new RTÉ drama 'Rebellion' (and is Damien's co-star in upcoming film 'Tiger Raid').

Check out this video of Damien on the panel!

It was live on Periscope, but you can still watch it (click the arrow and wait until video plays).

Damien also mentions Tiger Raid.

Hige thanks to Alexandra Ryan at Goss.ie!

I am based in the UK and this is the first time I have worked for RTE, it was amazing, we came back to Dublin, in October I think , shot a huge amount in Hoagh [?], which mirrors very well for Wexford and then we shot 3 weeks in Wexford which was like a holiday, obviously it was a brilliant time.
I have been based in the UK for the last 4 years, I went to drama school there, I've done a huge amount of theatre there, and I've got a couple of films coming out this year, one actually with Brian (gestures to Brian), we were in the desert in Jordan last August tearing around and sweating which was a huge amount of fun, which should be out later this year and I'm about to start a comedy for E4 next month. I may have had a minor meltcown as this wouldn't play on my phone or my tablet and our pc is currently defunct.  I literally just dragged my daughter out of bed so I could watch it on her laptop!  It was short and sweet, and I only got to see it once....but yaay for a damo interview (of sorts) and may there be many more to come.

Thanks domino! And thank you Alexandra Ryan.....just what I needed at the end of what's been a pretty shit day!

I would have expected him to mention Being Human, Ripper Street or Suspects as something he's been in that people would recognize him from, not plays and movies that haven't come out yet.

I agree jane. And i suspect that's what the interviewer expected him to say too. Kinda odd eh?

His voice was shaking, and he talked fast. I wondered if he was nervous. Maybe he only had a brief time and knew it, and hit the things people might not know as much about, rather than reviewing the obvious.

Damo always comes across well in interviews, loving how he is front and centre in this panel.
Jane I was surprised about the non mention of the TV dramas, but loved how he focussed on the films and that added little surprise at the end! I guess he has done a fair bit of interviewing for BH and RS maybe wanting to focus on what is fresh and new and coming.

BTW I added a non verbatim transcript of the main Damien part, in case the video is taken down.

He did talk fast/seem nervous.  Doesn't seem like the panel was rehearsed or pre-planned in any way. The interviewer should have introduced each person with some of their credits.  It's perplexing/disappointing he didn't mention BH, RS, and Suspects.  But I suppose they feel like a long time ago for him in relationship to the films and plays he's just done the past year.  I'm glad he did mention films.  Let's not downplay your acheivements Damien.  His CV is growing quite nicely.

And oohhh, the teaser about the comedy!  He's slipping!  But.... what does that mean for Suspects filming I wonder....

I wondered about Suspects too, whimsy. He's starting to run out of time to film lots this year, particularly as we hope he'll be in the US filming the Devil You Know early next year.

Suspects is filmed quickly so maybe it will fit in with this comedy. Looks like my Flight returning to Ripper Street fantasy will have to remain a fantasy for now though.

Yep! He is gaining a nice CV...and I can understand why he might want to focus on more recent things.  Being able to say 'I've got 2 films coming out later this year' must be amazing!  But I thought he was asked what people would recognise him from....and, quite honestly the answer to that is likely to be BH and RS.

I wondered about Suspects filming too.....although i guess they could rattle off another 4 eps in a few days!  I feel a bit as though channel 5 need to show the eps they already have before I can focus too much on whether they're gonna film any more.  It does look as though Flight returning to RS is fairly unlikely though rosie hmm

The video has now expired - Did everyone have a chance to watch it?!

If not, here are Damien's panel responses:

Although I am a little bit wary of reading too much into what people say in the spur of the moment when they are put on the spot in an interview - it's quite interesting what work Damien picked out to comment on.

He was on a panel to discuss what appears to be quite a 'gritty' tv drama.  I'm pretty sure that the interviewer asked him what people would recognise him from.....which would be tv drama. But he picked out theatre, film and a tv comedy which he''s about to start.

Kinda brings it home what a hugely varied cv he actually has - especially for what is actually such a short career.....

Agree fifi, you're right, they were on the spot responses!
Who knows... Maybe Damien wanted to highlight the fact that he has a massive theatre career too, when he IS already known for his TV roles? And we know he is a massive film fan and Brian Gleeson was sitting a couple of chairs aways from him and is also sounds to me like his is super excited about Tiger Raid. Larger role than KYF too.

Yup. Damien has excelled in just about every acting field, inculding radio too! and he's been working hard at it for years!

Maybe, as Hal would say, I wouldn't overanalyse it, but it is fun to speculate.

What a versatile actor. Good for him for not wanting to be pin pointed as one type of actor.

Kinda get impression that Damian is modest in interviews and not best at "blowing his own trumpet".... Hopefully will get more experiance on some chat shows this Autumn promoting his two films
